Happier new year for U's? 16:01 - Dec 30 with 1277 viewsjohnnyboy53

So we go into the new year bottom of the league, 9 straight defeats, 1 win 1 draw and 12 defeats in last 14 league games, last league win 20th Sept. And no more Callum Harriott along with his 7 goals and priceless assists! ........That's the bad news out the way, now for the positives.....a new manager and a budget that may stretch to one or two new players. Sorry but I really can't find many positives. I sincerely hope we go out and find TWO experienced defenders and another pacey winger. Or it's league two for the U's I fear?

I'm not that pessimistic, Johnny.

True, a bad run.

Bruma just equalised for Sociedad with a "Goal of the week" at Real Madrid; Sociedad is sporting their red kit today instead of the Colchester blue and white stripes

I find it amazing when clubs have a similar kit.

edit: Sadly Ronaldo just hit a cracker. Another goal of the week nominee.
Real Madrid 2-1 Real Sociedad with about 22 minutes to go.

Back on point. I think the U's are fine.

League 2 wouldn't be a deathblow. I just don't see relegation happening.

Poll: In Daniel's PL, Sector4 is top, I'm 2nd or 3rd depending on the update

We've dodged the bullet three years in a row. If Keen can ensure we dodge it again he should be given the freedom of the borough.

Rebuilding confidence throughout the team and refurbishing a back four currently appearing in panto as an open barn door are bare essentials. He also needs to find a formation that makes the most of the attacking potential we have.

I'm not as pessimistic as I was when Humes was in charge but I'm far from confident we will stay up.

We've been dodging the bullet for pretty much most seasons since we returned from the conference to be honest - safe by Easter was usually an aspiration, rarely the reality. There's enough about us to do so again, but don't forget we're also still in the FA Cup, and with a winnable 3rd round home fixture against Charlton to come - good job Callum is cup-tied though...

If KK cannot find the right players to bolster the back line it will be inevitable . Perhaps a drop down is required to get academy players more composed in their roles, rather than play with the pressure of relegation bestowed upon them .
When was the last season we were not the bookies favourites to go down and still time to prove them wrong again .

I was a regular subscriber to When Saturday Comes for several decades, really only until relatively recently when I finally accepted that the excellent fanzine-style articles were gone for good, but one of the issues I always looked out for was the pre-season one that included the season preview from a writer from each club (Maison Urwin was usually ours, and he did a fine job in my opinion).

Every season, without fail, we were tipped to be relegated, and lazy journalists/ bookies who couldn't be arsed to do their homework usually followed suit. Importantly, in all that time they've only be right once - our second season in the Championship, which really was a no-brainer. I remain confident that with a new man in charge, and good use of January's transfer window, we'll still be okay.

The same publication Wessex did a article of appropriate sponsors applicable to clubs . The U's recommended sponsor was viagra - footnote being it needs something to keep it up !
