Swansea fans,

Written up some thoughts ahead of your game at Bournemouth tomorrow - http://www.TheFootbalLab.co.uk/2016/bournemouth-v-swansea-soul-and-identity/ Would be interested to get your thoughts on Alan Curtis - would you rather have him in charge next season than Francesco Guidolin?

Cheers and good luck for the rest of the season.

Expect there will be interest in him but not sure how he'd do at another club. Seems very settled at Bournemouth and didn't do that well at Burnley.

Oh don't be so picky mun. I thought it was a very good in depth analysis on possible tactical lines up and how we both may expose or counteract each others weaknesses and strengths both individually and collectively.

The article doesn't seem to based on careful observation.

It's not fair to say Guidolin didn't do much to change the side. In the first few matches with him in charge, it appears that the players were instructed to try to win the ball back within 5 seconds, and they were successful in accomplishing it in most situations for the first hour. Unfortunately, the players have not attained good enough conditioning to do this for 90 minutes, and that is the major reason for conceding goals late in matches. Swansea played very well against Everton for the first hour, but they couldn't even get out of their own half and kept giving the ball back to the opposition, and Delofeu repeatedly made dangerous crosses into their six yard box. Swansea were lucky to get the win.

Against West Brom, Guidolin was criticised for replacing Taylor, but it was clear that the opposition saw him as a physical mismatch that they could exploit, using the likes of Rondon to impose himself on Swansea's left wing while exploiting the height advantage. If the substitution weren't made, it is likely that they would have conceded a goal due to this disadvantage.

Guidolin persisted with the ball-winning tactics until the match against Arsenal, which would be closely followed by the must-win match against Norwich. And to be fair, the players that Guidolin selected to line up against the Gunners played much better than expected, though some Swansea fans were too eager to criticise Guidolin's lack of ambition.

Swansea's lack of fitness was heavily exposed against Spurs, who even despite having played two matches (including a Thursday fixture before their tie with Swansea) while Swansea went two weeks without matches, showed far superior levels of fitness.

Swansea were rather fortunate to get the win against the Gunners, considering their opposition had struck the woodwork three times and were playing right after a gruelling tie against Barcelona.

If one wants to give so much credit to Curtis while criticising Guidolin, they should be consistent. Swansea's first half against Norwich was probably their worst of the season, sloppily surrendering possession repeatedly.

Rather than unfairly assigning blame to Guidolin for failing to change tactics, it would be far more reasonable to conider the reasons why he was forced to compromise on his tactics and to resort to defensive tactics in the later parts of matches.

I can't remember anyone criticizing FG for subbing Taylor at West Brom , though it was a great move myself. I just hope he realises that we should now bench Taylor and AR and play Naughton and Kingsley in their places.
