Happy League 2022/23 Week 21 (of 38) - Deadline Saturday 17th December 15.00 22:08 - Dec 10 with 1861 viewsmfb_cufc

Week 20 results

BLACKBURN ROVERS 1 PRESTON NORTH END 4

Ched Evans grabbed a second-half double as Preston thrashed their fellow promotion hopefuls to move to within two points of their Lancashire rivals. No points for anybody from this game, as 22 predicted a win for Blackburn, and the other 2 a draw.

ROTHERHAM UNITED 1 BRISTOL CITY 3
City ended a run of five Championship matches without a win with this victory. Nobody had this spot-on, but 5 did get the outcome.

SWANSEA CITY 0 NORWICH CITY 1
Norwich climbed to fourth in the Championship as Teemu Pukki's first-minute goal secured this victory, and bring an end to a six-game winless streak. 3 got this spot-on, and a further 10 had the outcome.

IPSWICH TOWN 2 PETERBOROUGH UNITED 1
A brace from Conor Chaplin helped Ipswich to record a victory over their promotion rivals. It was the fourth defeat on the trot for Peterborough, whose goal came from ex-U's Frankie Kent. A massive 10 had this spot-on, in what was the weeks most predicted score, and another 9 got the outcome.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY v PORTSMOUTH POSTPONED Frozen pitch

BRISTOL ROVERS 1 PORT VALE 0
An 87th minute winner from ex-U's Aaron Collins gave Rovers manager Joey Barton reason to celebrate his 100th game in charge. A super 6 had this spot-on, and a further 11 got the outcome.

LINCOLN CITY 0 WYCOMBE WANDERERS 0
A bore draw where both teams only manage to have one shot on target. Nobody got this spot-on, though 4 did have the outcome.

CARLISLE UNITED v BARROW POSTPONED Frozen pitch

GRIMSBY TOWN 2 TRANMERE ROVERS 1
Grimsby ended their six-match winless run in League Two with this victory over slumping Tranmere, who take their winless run to seven. A sublime 5 got this spot-on, and another 9 had the outcome.

NEWPORT COUNTY 0 DONCASTER ROVERS 1
Kyle Knoyle's second-half goal was enough to secure a win for Doncaster, as in-form Newport could only manage one shot on target. Well done to Madeira163 for being the only one to have this spot-on, and 3 more got the outcome.

It was a poor start to the week, with two games being postponed, and the first two early kick-offs only producing five outcomes between them. But after the Ipswich 2-1 got things up and running, and further wins for Norwich, Bristol Rovers and Grimsby, turned the week into pretty good one, with a total of 25 spot-ons overall. The weeks top performer was Madeira163, as he was the only one to get three 3 pointers, the wins for Rovers and Grimsby to go with his good Doncaster 1-0 prediction, to give him an excellent 9 points. Five members did well to have two 3 pointers, with the best performers being noah4x4 and BFG, who both had the wins for Ipswich and Rovers. They also got two outcomes each to give them a very decent 8 points. The other three all got the 2-1 wins for Ipswich and Grimsby spot-on, with blueeagle and MrHappy2 also having an outcome, to give them a decent 7 points, and thrillseeker getting a solid 6 points with his. Best of those to have one 3 pointer was unitedwhites, who had the Rovers 1-0, and four outcomes to give him a decent 7 points.

Happy Cup The draw and fixtures for the Quarter-finals are now on the separate Happy Cup thread.

U'sual Champions League The current situation in the qualification for this competition still has ghughes11 in that important eleventh qualifying place, with his 81 points. But only on the most 3 pointer rule from Lewis_1. It is then a further 5 points back to everyone else.

In the Premier Having the Rovers 1-0 spot-on helped to maintain the 5 point lead for mfb_cufc. It is now from noah4x4, whose decent week moved him back into second. Despite getting the Ipswich 2-1 spot-on, RSCOSWORTH drops back to third. The decent week for blueeagle moved him up another place into the final Super Cup spot. The fight to avoid relegation continues to hot up, and it is the turn of concordman to escape the bottom three this week, as Sector4 drops back in again. But he is only 3 points off sixth place, as things are that tight. At the bottom I am concerned by the well being of TheFatGooner. He has now failed to post for the last three weeks in the Happy League, missed posting in the Happy Cup, and the last two rounds of the Midweek League Cup. As a former workmate of mine I know how much he enjoyed taking part in the Happy League, so I don't think he would just leave without saying. But as there are far more important things in life than the Happy League, I hope that is this case here.

In Division One The decent week for MrHappy2, by going 2-1 all games, has taken him back to the top. A position he last held after Week 2. In fact he had dropped to 11th in Week 11, so that is a great recovery to be back at the summit again. The five week reign at the top comes to an end for GOSBTS, but having the Grimsby 2-1 spot-on made sure of being in the other automatic spot. By both getting the Norwich 1-0 spot-on, Pinault_Noir and oxfcolu remain in third and fourth. The top scoring performance from Madeira163 moved him up three places, and back into the play-offs again, after three weeks away. The final play-off place is taken by bwildered, as he was another to have the Ipswich 2-1 spot-on. Another to benefit from having that Ipswich win spot-on was burnsieespana, as he has to settle for just missing out on the top 6, a point further back. The only other members to make an upward move in the rest of the league, were BFG, as his decent week took him up another couple of places, and Blue4U2, who moved off the bottom thanks to getting the Ipswich 2-1 spot-on.

THE TABLES (142 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)
