A shame, but it shows the gulf in class between what are probably the best Premier League nippers in the country and a League 2 second/ third string. Donley was magnificent, and deserved his round of applause when he was subbed at the end.

As for the U's, Mingi was probably the stand-out player, and as always Hopper worked hard and deserved his goal, but for an excellent save from Keeley. As for the rest, Jay didn't take his chance to capture Ben's attention, and although Smith couldn't do much about any of the goals and did well to stop another two at least, you don't swap your first choice keeper with someone who's just let in five.

Overall, I'll give this a 4 out of 10 "meh" rating, although a better than expected near 2k turnout, bolstered by nearly 500 spuds, most of whom probably have CO postcodes.

Or IP postcodes Wessex!

Agree re Spurs who looked different class.

I like Bandeira and Mitchell.

And I feel sorry for Hopper unlucky not to score.

Bring on the Railwaymen.

Wild and Windy tonight in Durham. Plenty of rain too.

Hope it stays fine in Crewe.

Shambles on and off the pitch.

Spurs fans everywhere in the Home area. West stand sold out and I had been allocated one of those horrible tight padded seats with arms and no leg room made for a maximum size XL arse. They then opened the South Stand for overspill and initially refused to let ST holders move to their regular favoured location. Eventually common sense prevailed, except annoyingly the South Stand was then full of cheering Spurs fans wearing Spurs kit.

On the pitch, the U’s started well, nice passing movements, but so slow and ponderous. Then when Spurs changed gear, our defence looked like rabbits caught in headlights. What’s the point of competitions where managers make 11 changes and the higher ranked team play their kids?

Noah and that is the argument against incorporating Premier and Championship U21 teams in the competition.

We have bigger fish to fry in the League and BG selected a team to see what some of the fringe players could do.

I feel sorry for Tom Smith who was much too exposed for the goals.

Mingi and Bandeira played well.

We move onto Gresty Road on Saturday.

On the commentary they said there were still queues outside at kick-off.

It was a shambles Wessex.

It started with significant traffic queues into the main car park, not helped by road works and surprising activity in and out of the David Lloyd Centre, and cars returning back down Stadium Way having dropped off people. When they open the Northern Gateway car park (under construction), greater chaos seems likely.

The northern pavement was closed, with large numbers of pedestrians walking in the road, further impacting on traffic. Again, people dropping off fans on Stadium Way, then struggling to turn round was a problem. There was also some illegal pavement parking, and inadequate stewarding to manage all of this.

Evidently, they underestimated the gate. Crossing to the Southern pavement is hazardous as cars stream from the Stadium at excessive speed. Why can’t they make better use of the Boxted Road entrance (which has a barrier) now there are no shuttle buses?

I suspect that many non-regular fans thought it was a 19:45 kick off. As you say, queues were significant. The South Stand had been open for ticket purchase since lunchtime, so there was no knee jerk reaction to open it. However, latecomers of both colours were sold tickets and were there enough stewards? Our ticket entry system, now with Q code, seems to confuse non-regulars and cause delays, and additional stewards are then needed to guide folk in.

The West Stand was so cramped (never seen W2 and W3 so packed) and folk not sat in allocated seats that South Stand Season Ticket holders (including me) wanted to relocate to their regular seats. There was an initial refusal by stewards, confirmed by Supervisors, and then overruled by the Health & Safety Officer that by then had realised planned segregation had failed. Spurs fans were everywhere in home areas, but the designated away area in the West Stand only half-full.

Not enough programmes available inside the stadium. Frankly, a mess.
