*DURHAM_EXILE leaped from the quagmire of the relegation zone with a massive 11 points into 7th .. When the U's win at Stevenage, the above predicted results would mean Notts County, Shrewsbury and Stevenage are all (almost) down bar the shouting (e.g. then needing to win too many games with only four left), whilst Tranmere are almost certainly safe.
Crewe (a) then lose at Wolves; and Carlisle lose (a) at Preston; after which the U's four point gap (3 + our goal difference) looks almost unassailable; because one more U's point to take us to 47 points (a draw taken from either Oldham or Crewe or Walsall) and the gap is then effectively five points (including GD). It takes three games (Win + Draw + Draw) or instead Two Wins to get five (+) points and Crewe then have only four games left and Carlisle five. If we beat Stevenage; yet lose to Oldham and take a point at Crewe, then Crewe are still scuppered as they DROP two points. If the U's simply win ANY two games (provided one is against a relegation rival) we are probably then safe on 49 points, as others need 50 (given our GD).
So the drinks are on me down the Victoria Inn Saturday night if the U's win, I nail 2 HGPL points for 2 correct (Division One) results above; and Crew and Carlisle lose as the U's are then staying up and I win the HGPL prediction league (unless mfb-cufc can repeat his magnificent run on the trails in the final straight plus a tad more). One correction, though. The winner of the HGPL is the Prem Champion, not highest overall point total, if that so happens.
