How tactfully can one say this?... 21:04 - Jul 20 with 1801 viewsBarsidepete

Players of colour are finding ColU a comfortable place to develop their talents and even hint at wanting to remain for the long haul as quite frankly Colchester is a friendly spot to be a footballer.. unlike a lot of acidic places they might otherwise be fending off dareisay negative distractions from even those 'home supporters"..

I find this heartening. Well done, the first and only team in Essex

I remember Trevor Lee Getting abuse from the Man U supporters in a cup game at Layer Road, another reason for my intense hatred of that team. I hate them beyond reasonable considerations, then some more.

Really? I remember well when we played Sheff Utd in the 80's (after Lee had left) Tony Agana and another of their black players being subject to constant racist abuse from some morons near me at the open end; along with a particularly loud mouthed moron on T4 who used to abuse black players which continued throughout the 80's. I think you'll find they are still there but luckily a dying breed.

If I remember correctly he rather attracted adverse comments. Wasn't he the one with the "pineapple" on his head?

Haha - I'm taking that as a tongue-in-cheek comment Gerry, but just in case, that was Jason, not Trevor

I don't think he was the pineapple,The pineapple played for Peterborough among others for a time and would have invited ridicule whatever his colour.

Ha and ha!:p

btw Gerry, do you know that we get more views than even the Gazette to a Colchester-related story?

Maybe Daniel can explain in more succinct detail how we get our voices out there beyond the site. The writing is truly brilliant. Some of the best sports writing I've ever read.

But as The U'sual, I digress

The observations made by all contributors to the U'sual are always constructive and positive; with criticisms limited to fair comment and not merely destructive intent.

Also it is obvious that those in faraway places that struggle to get to games really do appreciate such postings that bring the bland factual data appearing in the routine sports press to life; and through a real fans eyes. So people make the effort.

The contrast with the Gazette is stark. There have been some epic threads in the Gazette where ANY positivity will always bring out a backlash from the sceptics that seem to want to knock our beloved Colchester United. But now we "are on the up"; it seems that there is rarely a comment posted in the Gazette!

Having just completed ten years in the town and carefully observed its psychological profile; my one concern is that Colchester is possibly the moaning capital of Great Britain. Yes we do have the odd pothole; and more Ipswich fans in Highwoods than there are in Suffolk; but Mrs Noah and me think its THE best place that we have ever parked the Ark; having lived all over the UK.

So I am proud to support the town and its LOCAL football club (despite having origins elsewhere). ...and as for the U'sual...it beats hanging out on any street corner!

Can those with longer service and better memories than me construct an "Of Colour" Col U X1?

Not to sound pedantic, but regardless of whether or not Colchester United/Matt Hudson decide on a testimonial as it were...

... We should get ahold of Trev and make one of the best pub night appreciations happen.

I'm 100 pc serious.. In fact, I believe this is a no-brainer.. let's do it peeps.. Will pay for the first class R/T train ticket wherever he is.. This should be done. Let's make history and start our own appreciation society of ColU legends..
