Us and Maldon & Tiptree 11:01 - Dec 30 with 775 viewsLeadbelly

Steve Ball is the new manager at Maldon & Tiptree and also appointed as assistant to John McGreal with the Us U21 squad. Both positions previously filled by David Wright.

Is there any official connection between the two clubs? The appointments seem a little strange to me if there isn't.

It started with Kevin Watson before he joined Teddy Sheringham; then the appointment of David Wright as Maldon & Tiptree manager whilst still holding down a Colchester United Academy position strengthened these informal ties at club level.

A number of our youngsters have since been formally loaned to M & T to gain adult match experience. Now David Wright has been promoted at WHCS, whilst Steve Ball has, in effect, taken over his former dual role. It all makes sense to me as aspiring 'managers' with coaching qualifications but no team management experience can be groomed in man-management whilst not losing their coaching input in the U's Academy. Benefits all parties.

Maldon and Tipree are one of the same, both at one time where separate clubs playing in different leagues, but when Tiptree moved out of Chapel Rd , ground shared with Maldon Town until the inevitable happened. The chairman had links with Tiptree United, so the progression must have continued with the merger .

Thanks chaps. Mutually beneficial arrangement seems sensible, especially if younger players are being loaned to M & T.

Whitton Utd who play in the Thurlow Nunn league have just appointed a Ipswich Town academy coach has their manager until the end of the season .
Seems the academy staff of football league clubs are now getting managerial posts in local non league clubs to gain managerial experience for their future education .
