A non football thread for the close season(if there is any interest)..."famous" people spotted doing something other than what they are best known for.

Last week I saw "Whispering" Bob Harris(he's quite tall) topping up on nicotine near Broadcasting House and Peter Andre (ashamed to admit I recognised him) shopping on New Bond Street (he's very short) This morning I passed BBC newsreader George Alagiah whilst walking to the office.

I saw Paolo Mancini in Mayfair last month, just after Man City had lost a game. Obviously not working them very hard on the training ground that morning.

Some years ago, I spoke to Roger Moore as he looked in an estate agents window.

...... didnt strike me as odd, until news of his divorce broke two weeks later.

Paolo? Roberto's brother perhaps?

While on the tube en route to Wembley last summer for an Olympic football match I stood next to Nick Robinson, BBC political correspondent. He appeared to spend most of the journey adding his twitter account to people's mobiles.

I actually saw two games at Wembley that day (Senegal vs Uruguay and GB vs UAE), it was good value and the highlight was a Senegal defender hacking down Luis Suarez and getting sent off - he was clearly going for the player and not the ball, which received a big cheer.

I did mean Roberto.

Whilst rather too "refreshed" earlier this year my mate and I, whilst travelling on the Central Line, asked Sir Clive Lloyd for his autograph which he gave us. He's very cool!

I spose it's cheating but when I lived on my beloved Alderney it was quite easy to rub shoulders with some of 'em.

That Penny Smith from Ch 4 News was always around, Duncan Goodhew was too because he has a house there, he even bought a picture from me. Very laid back bloke. NIce American wife and very pretty daughter.

Then there was the Snow family, Dan and is it Peter? TV presenters. Often there and larger than life. Fearnley-Whittingstall frequently as well as Miranda Krestovnikov whose husband is a very nice chap too.

Titchmarsh visited several times and made a very good impression and Ian Botham only sold his house there relatively recently though I never saw him. When Arlott was alive they used to meet up on a regular basis I believe.

One of the funniest things was to see Richard Digance getting himself into the little tiny planes which is the only way to visit Alderney as there's no ship route at all. He is very very tall and he had to request one certain seat in order to fit in! His guitar box had to go in the front of the plane as it wouldn't fit anywhere else. He still gigs there annually! He always seemed a nice enough fellow.

The Isle of Wight...........different matter. Although Bryan Adams wife and daughter were in the doctors where my partner works the other day!!!

They're all the same as us though really are' t they!

Does my friend gsy163 count?? He's a celebrity as he's the only U's fan on Guern and we used to hold exiles' meetings on Alderney annually. Seemed pretty much celebrity to me!

I dealt with Richard Digance a few years back when he bought some land at Stratford St Mary from my fishing club. Very down to earth and a keen angler to boot.

In July 1969; I attended the International Scout Jamboree in Idaho USA. We watched the first moon landing on colour TV (B & W at home) whilst meeting Apollo astronaut Frank Boorman; World champion boxer Archie Moore and many other celebrity supporters of the US Scout Association. An awesome experience at age 15, which led to a remarkable series of coincidences 40 years later....

I went as one of four 'official' UK representatives (three teenage) that didn't know each other prior to the event; nor did we keep in touch thereafter, as we lived miles apart. Then, 40 years later (n.b. consider the odds given the UK population is over 60M), I found myself directly working with one of the other four UK representatives (he was originally from Scotland) whom I had not seen since. It took us a few weeks to make the connection as we didn't immediately recognise each other or our names!

This coincidence is perhaps more likely had we been working for a major company, but ours had less than 20 employees. That's few enough to make one consider both how big and small this planet can be; but spookily, the 1969 teenage coincidence with my modern work colleagues didn't end there.

Discovery of this led to a separate conversation with another work colleague. We had no previous knowledge that as teenagers we had lived in the same town (200 miles from our work place). Remarkably, and occurring in the same "Summer of 69"; we discovered that we had played schoolboy cricket against each other (for different schools) in a most memorable match. His school was all out for 11, and he hit their only runs (the rest were extras) edging a four off my bowling. We checked the records to confirm. We had known each other as working adults for at least ten years before ever identifying we had this 1969 teenage connection.

The odds of a unprompted reunion after 40 years by becoming work collegues with two teenage acquaintances in a company of merely 20 employees operating 200 miles from one's teenage family home must be millions to one.

Anybody else had any spooky coincidences and reunions from their youth? Who has come back to haunt you? Did you ever employ the school bully and get your own back? Be careful with your answers involving young ladies, we don't want any arrests!

Not one I can claim for myself, but my wife used to work in a private hospital on the outskirts of Salisbury, and was utterly gob-smacked one day when checking in on an elderly lady they were looking after at the time to find her son, Mick Fleetwood, sat by her bed - she is a massive Fleetwood Mac fan, and very nearly blew her cool professional demeanour at that point...

From 1998 to 2008 I was based on Savile Row. Amongst those I can recall seeing were Reeves & Mortimer (seperately) & Nigel Planer. I also saw an unsightly scrum of paparazzi and young people crowding round a Bentley which, apparently, contained Mr & Mrs David Beckham. The throng was so deep I didn't see P & B but I don't think I lost any sleep over that.

Just off Savile Row is a pub we used where Kelly Jones, lead singer of Stereophonics, would drink quite regularly on a friday evening.

I once played pool with the black Scotsman from Porridge in a dingy riverside pub in Windsor (beat him too).

I have twice seen Joe Dunne in Tesco ....without Mrs Dunne.

Does that count as "spotting a celebrity in unusual circumstances"? The only time that I visit Tesco is when dragged there by Mrs Noah.

Joe always comes charging over for a chat with anybody wearing U's colours. It must take him hours to shop and return home....where he might be found even more jobs to do................ clever ....!

Fletcher referred to him a "Sonny Jock" if I recall correctly.

Saw Sheedy in Sainsbury's at Tollgate many years ago giving earnest consideration to the purchase of a frying pan. I didn't disturb him.

I saw Donald Sumpter, Maester Luwin in Games of Thrones, at Manningtree station last week. He was picking up his wife (I assume). Does he live locally I wonder?

You mean Game of Porn?

Donald Sumpter lives, or at least lived, at Winterfell - he's dead you know?
