Saints, Arsenal And Liverpool In For German Midfielder
Friday, 19th Jun 2015 15:06

German midfielder Sven Bender is apparently on the radar of Saints according to German media reports.

German newspaper Bild is reporting that Saints along with Arsenal & Liverpool have been in contact with Borrusia Dortmund's midfielder Sven Bender.

Bender is reportably on £41k per week with the German giants, but feels he it is time for a move for more money and the best place to do that would be the Premier league.

Arsenal have been keen on Bender for a while now although he seems to be in line behind Morgan Schneiderlin in their list of targets and Bender's future may depend on where Schneiderlin goes if he leaves Saints.

Tottenham are also believed to be interested although like Liverpool having the transfer fee to hand now without selling first could be a stumbling block.

Arsenal would be a big attraction to the player as he could play Champions League football with them, something neither Dortmund or any of the other potential suitors can offer him in the coming season.

How much Bender would cost Saints is another factor and he does not seem to be a regular started for Dortmund in the Bundesliga and with only 7 caps for Germany since his debut in 2011 is not one of their top players.

So despite his relatively high wages he could come at a cheap price and it could be that his stature is not big enough for Arsenal or a club with delusions of grandeur which would rule out Spurs and Liverpool.

Bender will command a fee of £20m plus and wages of £50k plus, and we are not in that league for new acquisitions as yet.
I think that we are in the range up to £15m and £50k with both being top end/push the boat out for the right player.
We can offer higher wages if the fee is lower, which might apply to Alderweireld as he is a player we know will perform in the PL
We can offer higher wages to senior pros on renewing contracts - Fonte, Schneiderlin, Clyne - that we wish to reward/keep
Just my thoughts and not based on any real knowledge other than that is speculated
