It is not often that a professional footballer admits that they have made a move for non money purposes but new Swans left back has done just that today by admitting that he made the move to Swansea to play here rather than purely for financial gain.

Don't get me wrong here I don't suspect that he has come to Swansea to play for buttons but with offers on the table from Eastern Europe that were better than he has got at Swansea it is clear to see that this is a player with ambition.

In recent years we have seen players make a move that is not necessarily right for their career but certainly right for their bank balance and this is a great example of a player balancing out the two subjects to ensure that he gets the best out of himself which in turn means we get the best out of the player.

Tabanou will provide the competition at left back that we so badly wanted and although I suspect that Neil Taylor will retain his spot in the starting line up when we start at Chelsea on the opening weekend Tabanou will get more than his fair share of game time next season with Garry Monk likely I think to rotate his two left backs on a reasonably frequent basis.

Tabanou also realised that he could have arrived at Swansea in the January transfer window but the deal could not be pushed through in time for St Etienne to get a replacement in place. However, with Garry Monk clearly a long term admirer the deal never completely went away and was eventually completed last weekend

“The club already wanted to take me in January and had even made an offer, but St Etienne had no time to find a replacement. They continued to follow me over the last six months." said Tabanou

“I’ll play in the best championship in the world in a team that finished eighth last year. This is not just anything. This is not a financial choice, otherwise I would have gone elsewhere, to the countries in the east.”
