OT : Cricket World Cup 09:14 - Jan 29 with 9610 viewsbasilrobbiereborn

Not long to wait for this now. Looking at the format you would think we would be strong enough to get through the group stage (although Bangladesh would be a bit of a worry), but I can't really see us getting much further than the QF unless the draw does us a favour or two.

Australia or the Saffers to win it for me, with New Zealand and Pakistan dark horses from either side of the draw. So get your money on India.

Osbourne here,

News from Wellington. New Zealand v West Indies. Quarter Final 4.
New Zealand have made 393, one of their batsmen has scored 237! How many?

West Indies are 209 for 8 off 25.3 overs. Chris Gayle scored 67 Osbourne thinks with 8 sixes! But Gayle is out, so it is "good night to the Windies."

Pity, Gayle is huge entertainment. Osbourne would of liked to of seen him in a Semi Final!

Few days break now, then on to the Semi Finals.
Chris Gayle and the West Indies.

A batsman scoring 237 not out.

Would be nice once in a while if England could score that.

Yes all set up nicely

I sense a possible surprise in the Australia v India match but can't see NZ losing on home turf to SA

Two good semi's anticipated and all live on R 5 Live which has provided excellent nocturnal coverage.

Enjoy
Cambers
ps I fancy NZ to win - I was impressed by them in their warm up games - solid outfit with bat, ball and in the field and right blend of experience and youth - they are also not arrogant, smug and Kevin Peitersen lovers and would be welcome winners imo

Osbourne here,

I say!

It's Kevin Pietersen actually.

"arrogant, smug and Kevin Pietersen lovers."

Are you having a "pop" at Osbourne here, Cambers old boy?

India are going to win the World Cup and Osbourne stands to win a tidy sum.

Osbourne thinks it is going to happen.

Pool are beating Leeds today Cambers.

Why would any follower of English cricket not want our best batsman for many a year in the home Ashes side 2015, ie KP? Did Australia use to leave Don Bradman out of their XI?

Cheer O.

Hi Osbourne

Don Bradman was a cricketer, Kevin Pietersen thinks he's a celebrity.

Good luck with your bet(s) - I'd really like an India v NZ final

As for your Pool prediction - umm I think we'll 2nd again but admire your enthusiasm.

Osbourne here,

3rd Quarter Final.
Easy win for Australia. Pity.

Pakistan's 213 all out in 49.5 overs being chased by Australia's 216 for 4 in 33.5 overs.

"basilrobbie" thanks for braking the monotony!
Yes, so far, South Africa, India and Australia.

Pakistan.

Osbourne here,

4th Quarter Final.
Easy win for New Zealand.

New Zealand winning toss and batting knocked up, 393 for 6. Guptill scoring 237 not out - Blimey!
West Indies were 250 all out in 30.3 overs. 61 for Chris Gayle.

New Zealand therefore won by 143 runs.

West Indies.

SEMI FINAL and FINAL :

1st Semi Final : New Zealand v South Africa, Auckland 1.00am Tuesday 24th March.
2nd Semi Final : India v Australia, Sydney, 3.30am Thursday 26th March.

Final : Melbourne, 4.30am Sunday 29th March.

Any one of these 4 teams could win the World Cup, Osbourne hopes that it is India.

Come on India!

This is how the bookmakers see the Semi Finals going :
NZ 6/5 v SA 5/6 - bookmakers don't know on this one!
India 2/1 v Australia 5/11 - bookmakers say Australia.

TO WIN THE WORLD CUP :
Australia 13/10
South Africa 10/3
New Zealand 4/1
India 5/1

So The bookmakers have Australia as the clear favourites, with the other 3 all about the same.

Osbourne because of his bet is saying India. India will have to have luck on their side and play very well to do it. Osbourne hopes they do.

It will be interesting. From the mind of Osbourne though, it would be much more fun if England were in the semi finals. Osbourne is trying his best but is disappointed that England could not of stayed in the competition longer.

Come on India! Osbourne most definitely does not want Australia to win the thing!

Osbourne here,
4th Quarter Final, Saturday morning 1.00am, Wellington, New Zealand v West Indies.

Bookmakers say New Zealand.
New Zealand 3/10 West Indies 3/1.
Osbourne says probably New Zealand unless Chris Gayle can get going!

NEW ZEALAND :
Won all their Pool games.
They have dangerous players everywhere.

WEST INDIES :
Inconsistent, indisciplined, lackadaisical!
Their batting is questionable.
Chris Gayle is their leading scorer with 279 runs. 215 of them in one innings!
Chris Gayle also has to pass a late fitness test to play.

Osbourne is calling New Zealand here. If Chris Gayle plays and gets going then West Indies could cause an upset. Osbourne loves Chris Gayle. Boy can he hit them!

1st Semi Final comes out of these two. South Africa v NZ or WI.

NB Apart from Osbourne and "basilrobbie," is anyone on AVFTT following this World Cup now that England are out? Osbourne is beginning to wonder? Blimey, what is the attendance going to be at Stanley Park, Blackpool in July when Lancashire meet Middlesex in the Royal London 50 overs competition?! Osbourne will be there. Given good weather, should be a cracking day.

Osbourne will be found either in the William Hill Tent or the Beer Tent!

Osbourne here,
1st SEMI FINAL, Tuesday morning 1.00am, Auckland, New Zealand v South Africa.

Bookmakers not sure!
New Zealand 6/5 South Africa 4/5.
Osbourne says New Zealand with their home advantage. South Africa are known as "The Chokers."
This match is massively anticipated in New Zealand. If New Zealand win then they will have to travel to Melbourne, Australia to play the final. This semi final is then probably the biggest cricket match ever to of been played in New Zealand. The match has every chance of being a "cracker." New Zealand are luckily playing "The Chokers." New Zealand will make it through to the MCG.

World Cup odds :
Australia - 11/8
SA - 3

New Zealand therefore win by 4 wickets via the Duckworth / Lewis calculation.

I can't agree that they are chokers, Oz. They might have gone on to make 350 if they'd had the full 50 overs. That is a very good score, in any circumstances.

They are less consistent than the other top sides at this level, but not by much. I wish we had their problems.

A fabulous match - well done and good luck the Kiwi's (good team)

I really hope India beat Oz on Thurs. Cousin Joe (a massive Pool fan in Sydney) is working it for the car fleet service (volunteer) - he supports any improvement in Pool fortunes

Osbourne here,

Bookmakers say Australia. Osbourne says India.
India 2/1 Australia 4/9.
Osbourne sees a definite upset here. India won the World Cup 4 years ago. They have won all 7 of their matches in the 2015 World Cup. Australia's captain is under huge pressure. Australia's opening pair are suspect. Aaron Finch and "uncouth mouth" David Warner, since the England game, are yet to go beyond a joint effort of 30 before Australia's first wicket "a tumbles." India's spin bowlers will win the match for India. The bookmakers and Australians might not like it, but Osbourne, who is calling these matches correctly, has India as clear favourites. Osbourne of course stands to collect a tidy sum if India lift the cricket World Cup. So, to Osbourne's cricketing friends on AVFTT, don't go dashing down to the bookies on Osbourne's tip, think for yourselves. Having said that, Osbourne sees an Indian v New Zealnd final.

Osbourne bringing all English cricket fans good news :

KP or KEVIN PIETERSEN TO RETURN TO THE ENGLAND SIDE FOR THE HOME ASHES SERIES 2015 :

Kevin Pietersen has signed for Surrey for the 2015 season.
The new England and Wales Cricket Board Chairman, Colin Graves has said that KP's England career is not over. Colin Graves has also said that serious questions will be asked of the England side and management if they do not return from the West Indies with a series win!

KP is confident that he can work easily with Captain Cook and Sergeant Moores!

On returning from his commentary stint in Australia (World Cup) where KP has been scoring many a run with the microphone, KP is meeting with Mr Colin Graves. KP and Colin Graves will then "draw a line in the sand," and KP will be back.

Osbourne asks :
1. Does "Axe Man" Downton know about this?
2. Does "The Chocolate Bar Kid" Whitaker know about this?
3. Who exactly is "Draw a Line in the Sand" Graves?
4. Are David Warner, Mitch Johnson and Captain Clarke, "Motor Mouths All" pleased to know that the great KP is coming back to the arena?

India might of lost and Australia might be just about to win the 2015 Cricket World Cup, but the news that KP is coming back must please all cricket followers on AVFTT. It pleases Osbourne.

Osbourne here,
WORLD CUP FINAL, Sunday morning 4.30am, Melbourne, Australia v New Zealand.

Bookmakers say Australia. Osbourne says, either side capable of winning. Osbourne guesses that Australia will prevail.
Australia 4/9 New Zealand 2/1

Tickets for the semi final in Sydney were going for as much as £500! Perhaps the organisers thought it was better to risk a sprinkling of empty seats than fill the place at half the price? However, what ever tickets for the MCG are being charged at, it will be full to bursting point for the final on Sunday, thats for sure!

New Zealand would have had more of a chance if Sunday's final was against India. Such is Australia's form that "The Black Caps" could be on the wrong side of a whipping at the MCG. However, whoever wins, it's going to be a serious "Dust Up!"

One of the few negatives in Australia's face is the rumour that the relationship between the captain, Michael Clarke and coach Darren Lehmann may not be a bed of roses. This could help New Zealand's cause. However, Osbourne is suspecting an Australian victory on Sunday at the MCG.

So, it will be well done New Zealand come Sunday night. Good, but not good enough.
Let's hope for a cracking game.
Osbourne will have to settle for auditory! KP and Boycs!
Wish I could be there to see it live!

Glad to see you have been listening / watching "Scratcher."

WORLD CUP FINAL.
Australia have beaten New Zealand.

New Zealand won toss and batted making 183 all out in 45 overs.

Australia 186 for 3 off 33.1 overs.

Australia therefore win by 7 wickets.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan had this to say :
"It was a brilliant performance. Australia were the best team in the tournament, fantastically led by Michael Clarke. Today they were just too powerful and strong for New Zealand, who have been great throughout the tournament. They've had everything you'd need in a one day side, with the left arm pace of Johnson and Starc. They've got everything covered."

Bad luck to "The Black Caps."
Osbourne now looking forward to the Ashes 2015 in England. KP is going to spank you Aussies all over the park.

Pity that New Zealand could not of run Australia a little closer at the MCG.
Don't forget the Lancashire v Middlesex Royal London 50 over fixture at Stanley Park, Blackpool on Wednesday 29th July. Given good weather, it will just like being at the MCG for the day!

Any AVFTT end of World Cup debate?
Final was a bit of an anti climax if all be told.
Martin Crowe story made Osbourne sad too. Wasn't he the chap who was involved with the Peter Roebuck (new captain) induced removal of Vivian Richards, Joel Garner and Ian Botham from Somerset in the 1980's? Martin Crowe became Somerset's new overseas player if Osbourne recalls. Ian Botham never forgave Peter Roebuck for this, it became a very messy story between the two of them. Botham left in a huff and went to Worcestershire. Roebuck met a horrific end too. Blimey, what a story all that was.

Happy camping in cricket dressing rooms - bring on KP!

Osbourne here,

Message to any cricket fan on AVFTT.

Highlights of the World Cup Final, Australia v New Zealand on ITV at 22.15 for one hour tonight - Sunday.

Osbourne has been on auditory. Osbourne is going to watch these highlights tonight.

The English cricket season is getting close. Osbourne can't wait to see KP spanking those "Baggy Greens" all around the park.

Osboune says "stick that Mitch Johnson into the stingers, KP, and as often as you can!"

Now, with KP back in the England side, Osbourne wonders what kind of odds one can get on England winning the 2015 home Ashes series?

Osbourne glued to ITV 10.15 - 11.15 tonight. "Come on New Zealand!"

BIGGEST CONTROVERSY OF THE 2015 CRICKET WORLD CUP?

England managed to provide this. What was it?

The prolonging of the KP (Kevin Pietersen) saga. This has been an entertaining diversion for the rest of the cricketing world, especially the Australians. KP turned up for the tournament as a pundit, was rarely off television screens and early on during the competition, announced his desire to regain his England place.

Let's face facts now. KP will be playing in the 2015 home Ashes series. KP should of just been playing in the World Cup.

Osbourne is prepared to say it. Why aren't others? KP is a very good batsmen, why is he not playing for England? He is the one person that the Australians do not want to be playing against this summer.

The Cricket World Cup was a pretty good competition though - even without KP!

Osbourne here,

Paul Downton gone.

Kevin Pietersen is being brought back into the England Test side.

It is not "if" now, it is "when?"

At least Osbourne has called this one correctly!
