December League Two MotM Award 13:34 - Jan 3 with 798 viewsdurham_exile

JM has (justifiably) been nominated for the Manager of the Month Award for League Two in the month of December.

The other contenders are:

Shaun Derry Cambridge
Paul Tisdale Exeter
Gareth Ainsworth Wycombe

Now each team accumulated 10 points from their games and so there is a very real danger that JM will get the nod probably as a result of the victory at Luton.

JM would definitely deserve the award for transforming the Super U's fortunes and Kurtis Guthrie should receive an award for his intervention in giving everyone a kick up the backside.

The curse of the MotM may therefore come to Colchester. We must keep on winning and hopefully achieve the January award as well.

Friday is D Day.

I'm naturally delighted that JM has been appropriately recognised for his achievements, but hopeful by virtue of their additional 5-0 FA Cup victory at Chesterfield that Mr Ainsworth will get the nod :-)

Yes, if we are patient.

The wheels came off for Dunne and Humes when our entire defence got injured and we became dependent on kids. Fickle fans didn't even allow them to get to the next transfer window. The primary mistake then was introducing the youngsters too soon.

The same thing happened to McGreal (Prosser, Briggs, Kinsella injured) and once again form slumped. Fans were fast calling for his head. But we have ridden the storm, and our Academy has matured. Frankie Kent showed promise at age 17, but is now superb. I have repeated often in these columns that Parkinson took three seasons to build a decent squad and managerial change every six months is fruitless.

Frankly, I am delighted Humes is in the back office. The best thing about studying history is learning from other people's mistakes. I think Humes may be a vety good history teacher and won't allow others to repeat his mistakes!

Nah Gerry, I am confident. Let's look at the seven teams above us....

We were the "better side" AWAY at league leaders Donny, Plymouth and Carlisle; but our (then) soft defence (plus some shocking refereeing) let each of them sneak it. We are so much more robust now, and our defence is also being better protected by an experienced combative midfield. Even our forwards are now winning the ball back (Guthrie is a magician at dispossessing folk; look too at Garvan's goal against Crewe).

Then we have beaten two others above us AWAY (Luton & Wycombe). We have also beated Cambridge at home. Portsmouth did beat us, but again AWAY. So SIX of the seven above us must come to WHCS, which, with our fans help, we can again make a fortress. By contrast, Plymouth have to play six of the top eight away. Others have more balanced (H & A). But we do have the easiest run in of the top eight if 'home' is considered an advantage. Let's hope to for better refereeing as we have had some shockers of late. We won versus Cheltenham, but we could have easily seen Garvan's and Brindley's legs broken without retribution. At least two of their thugs should have seen red.

I believe both were named "manager FOR a month", which is the optimum period of grace allowed by too many fans before they demand their sacking. I am just hoping that whatever blips might occur, we now give John McGreal three Transfer Windows to get his largely inherited squad shaped in his chosen mould.

We trust that Lincoln will finish the job at Sincil Bank and Mccarthy will soon be on his way!
