Transfer deadline - a reminder 08:21 - Aug 30 with 3191 viewsLeadbelly

It's 23.00 Thursday 31 August...just in case anyone at Colchester United had forgotten.

Transfer deadline - a reminder on 20:51 - Aug 31 by wessex_exile

As far as I can tell from the various sources, so far it appears to be:

Official
Nicke Kabamba - 24yro forward from Pompey on loan until January
Sanmi Odelusi - 24yro forward from Wigan on loan until January
Brandon Cowley - 21yro midfielder from QPR on loan until January
Brandon Hanlan - 20yro forward from Charlton on loan until January

Unofficial (so far)
Ryan Inniss - 22yro centre back from Palace on loan for rest of the season.

Have I missed anyone?

Wessex no you haven't missed anyone but we have another 2 hours yet.

Noah, the team selection for Saturday will indeed be interesting.

5 signings - 3 strikers, 1 midfielder, 1 defender

I would imagine that everyone will be in the squad but obviously not all will start.

I know nothing about any of them but at least we have given the transfer market a real go.
Incidentally all on loan until Jan 18.

The most interesting could be former sprinter Kabamba who was a prolific goal scorer in the non league.

There's a queue outside WHCS.

I don't think Robbie Cowling is doing a book signing.....

We have scored nine goals at home already. Competition between strikers is going to hot up, whilst Ryan Innis will scare the pants off most attackers. Look up his record!

Small correction Durham, Inniss is definitely until the end of the season, not January. Not trying to influence your team pick for Saturday, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least Kabamba and Inniss start.

Anyone know the limit on the number of loan players we can play?

I gather Sanmi Odelusi has joined us on a free transfer, otherwise we now have 5 players on loan if you add Reid to today's signings.

Edit: Comley, not Cowley - apologies Brandon.

Mindful that I'm tiptoeing through a veritable minefield here, and with absolutely no wish to offend anyone, all are for want of a more appropriate expression, of non-white origin. This, to me, maintains the proud tradition of Colchester United never letting colour get in the way of opportunity.

His criminal record?

We are now fully loaded as far as unfulfilled potential goes but I can't see that we have made one signing that improves the first XI nor addressed the obvious need for experience. Utterly underwhelmed.

He unfortunately has a bad injury record, so will be right at home with the Col U sickies.

Wessex thanks for the clarification.

I had read conflicting reports about a loan until Jan for all 5 players, I hope that Inniss can stay the course fitness wise.

Now 23:03 so don't expect any further signings.

Surely McGreal & Humes can see we need an experienced Centre Half & Centre Forward

I am underwhlemed by the 5 we have signed although I must admit Kabamba does interest me as I have seen him play in non-league but worry about the step up to Tier 4.

I just hope these players do settle in and make a difference

Still suffering from shock. I have never seen or heard us ever having this much activity in one day. Hopefully the law of average will kick in and one out of five will make a difference.

So just the five loan signings.

Lots to think about ahead of the Cambridge game.

Smith from Portsmouth went to Bury in the end!!!

With long term injuries to Dickenson,Guthrie, Loft , Prosser and Slater looks like we have gone out and secured anybody's whaf and strays.
With several academy players not offered new deals at the end of last season and the latest batch some way off first team roles, it appears we have the contractors in .

Wonder what is the current total of FL goals scored by complete U,s squad of players ?

Alex Gilbey moved from Wigan to the MK Dongs late in the window.

On balance I am happy. Lot more competition in the squad. Gives us a chance to look at people and then, if we like and they us sign them like we did, for example with Seass and Moncur.
The game is changing and, in general terms, players getting younger just like in F1 and cricket my other two sports. In F1, I was highly critical at first of the yound 18 year olds getting seats but on balance believe they have helped the sport progress.

The old adage is "If they're good enough they're old enough". It seems the Cowling motto is "if they're young enough they're cheap enough"

There is nothing at all in past records to suggest those players signed on deadline day are good enough. The only one that made it on the pitch yesterday is already being haled as the worst player to wear a Col U shirt!

The club have always said they would never sign anybody for the first team who is not better than we already have. There is no evidence to suggest that any of the five signed on deadline day are any better. In fact if the one who played yesterday is anything to by they are worse.

Apparently Inniss was injured when he signed. Rather begs the question of why we signed him at all.

Desperation, Leadbelly. I think that applies to all five. We were promised an experienced striker, so there is no way they were our first choice. This transfer window has been an absolute disgrace. The only signing that has possibly improved the squad is Jackson.

Should have re-signed Gilby (Manager change at Wigan after last seasons relegation, is this the reason he is loaned out ? ).
