Cumbrians to be outfoxed at Fortress WHCS by Super U's 19:32 - Oct 13 with 1127 viewsdurham_exile

A rejuvenated and revitalised Col U side managed by JM welcome the Cumbrians, who face a 316-mile trip to the WHCS this weekend.

The recent promising results for the Super U’s have been aided by the form of Sean Murray and Doug “sicknote” Loft. Sadly, Loft is likely to miss out this weekend.

This of course is JM biggest problem at present, the inability to play a settled team, which has not helped the early form this season.

Kane Vincent-Young, Kurtis Guthrie (who has suffered a setback in his recovery), Sammy Szmodics and Tom Lapslie will all miss out again this weekend. Craig Slater may also miss out as well.

Birthday boy Mikael Mandron (23) has received rave reviews from JM and the goals are beginning to come for the Frenchman.

Mr versatile, Drey Wright, has played just about everywhere bar the goalkeeper, but this again is mismanagement of a player who really should be playing down the wing in an attacking sense.

Whilst JM ponders his starting XI, Keith Curle is playing 39-year-old Clint Hill for the Cumbrians. The two teams have similar records this season but Colchester must remain favourites given WHCS home advantage.

Colchester follow this home game with two away fixtures at the new improved Rodney Parade with a re-laid pitch on Tuesday evening and then a trip to the Ricoh Arena to play Coventry City. The Railwaymen visit the WHCS at the end of the month.

Of course, JM will be watching to see who ball number 14 plays after Monday night’s draw for the first Round Proper of the Emirates F A Cup, to be played over the weekend of 3-6 November with £18,000 going to the winners. I suppose that a home tie must be preferred.

But back to the Cumbrians and JM’ s team.

A 3,4,3 formation with the following on duty:

Walker

Eastman Inniss Kent

Jackson Murray Comley Reid

Wright Mandron Hanlon

Subs:
Gilmartin Kinsella Kpekawa O’Sullivan James Odelusi Kabamba

Momentum is with the U’s at present and JM will be looking for three more valuable home points tomorrow. If our recent improved Away form can also be evident in South Wales and the Midlands then we could look forward to breaking into the top seven places.

Enjoy the game, enjoy the balmy 20 degrees plus weather on Saturday in Colchester and more importantly enjoy the three points.

Two changes Kpekawa and Loft instead of Inniss and Conley which suggests 4,4,2

Despondency reigns here in France Durham, the continuum continues. We cannot seems to put results together these days and I think a climb upwards looks many years off, perhaps by the time some oof the youth players really aquit themselves and perhaps when we have some experienced management. I hope so anyway. The crowds are slipping away and it all feels sounnecessary but there we are. We are realistically, where we probably deserve to be. Not feeling confident about Tuesday are you?

Looked like the U's had been on international duty at the start of this game . Slow, laborious predictable and lacked quality throughout in the first half .
Brief positivivity in the second led to a fine double save by the visiting keeper, but soon after Loft failed to cut out through ball which was score from a tight angle .
A well drilled defence and the usual time wasting kept the U's firmly in check. A classic encounter of what to do to get a result on your travels .
The U's - going nowhere .

Disappointing performance lacking that cutting edge. Consistency is the key which continues over the last probably 10 year's to be missing. We really need Kurtis back fully fit to give us another dimension up front.

Where was the drive, the ambition, the fight and the quality? We played at a distinctly pedestrian pace and movement off the ball was non-existent. Despite all this we still created more chances than Carlisle but their single shot on target was enough to secure three points.

Almost a third of the season has passed and I'm afraid to say that League 2 football is proving to be unbelievably poor entertainment. The only thing worse is the standard of officiating.

Have just watched the "highlights".

We missed three very presentable chances. Hanlan especially was guilty of missing a sitter.

I am in no way defending the indefensible but our finishing at times is woeful.

It is up to the team to regroup and go to Rodney Parade and win, simple as.

The old maxim of failing to convert chances is very much our Achilles heel at present.

Keep the faith.
