Setting up the wall . 19:02 - Nov 22 with 498 views

Is there a wrong or a right way ?
Interesting to watch Big Sam line up the wall last night against a direct free kick, just off set from the centre outside the area twenty yards out, with the tallest on the inside of the five players .
Luckily the resultant shot hit the bar moving away from the keeper, with the follow up saved.
Any goalie coaches out there ?

No doubt our section of S4 didn't like the look of that wall as it was set up. You can never stop the opposition scoring if they produce a great free kick but you must ensure it is as difficult as possible for them. I think that particular wall was an open invitation and we were fortunate not to concede. That said the team isn't conceding many goals so something is working well.

Anybody remember the game where Seven foot Sam lines up the wall with big George on the right hand side. Elokobi then departs his position and joins it on the left. From our position in the stand we could see the obvious flaw even if Sam and George didn't. Ball was (unhindered) smashed low exactly where he had previously been stood.

Shrewsbury away if I recall......but it was hilarious with hindsight.
