The Pitch 19:33 - May 7 with 4010 viewsDaley_Lama

Paid for entirely by RAFC, as confirmed by our Chairman today in his end of season wrap up.

Just in case anybody still thinks it was paid by Tottenham or Talk Sport or Alan Shearer or BBC or the fairy god mother.

A few slips and lots of tennis ball bounces aside, the re-laid pitch held up well this season through to the end on Sat.

Not only has it held up, it's played considerably better in the last month than the few weeks after it was laid, with bedding down

Hope this will mean not much will need to be spent during the summer and that the outlay in February will therefore be at least partially recouped

It looked fab on Saturday, but I thought it was soil based, and needed replacing with fibre sand to avoid the horrors of last winter in the future, or am I talking rubbish?

No that's what I thought as well. Definitely needs doing if so don't want to have the same situation next Feb.

That a company was booked to install a fibresand pitch and such a long window was made available to do the work, it’s hard to see why this longer term plan won’t still be the route we follow. The issues around the pitch that was laid in a week last season are documented in the article and it took a similar length of time this time around, so there would be have to be a significant difference in what we did this season to not still have to look at a solution that lasts for longer. If that seven week time period was required to get it right, then it’s understandable that we will still make sure it’s done, even if it means ripping up a pitch that was only down for three months.

The money made from the Cup run paid for the pitch anyway, the summer work was planned before we’d even played Millwall.

Pretty sure that the pitch that was laid in Feb 2017 was a soil based one , which was supposed to last 18 months, but couldn't cope with the Rochdale rainfall.

Also pretty sure that the one laid this Feb was a sand based one. Thus, it probably won't need ripping up this Summer.

Sure someone will find the relevant links from the O/S.

Not 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure they managed to install fibre based. Don't know why it was possible this year but not last. Might be to do with the hours that were put in - it seemed to be 24 hours a day at times. Don't think there is the need for the pitch to be replaced in the Summer. The new deal they got for the pitch involves an awful lot of follow up work by those who installed it rather than just sticking it down and buggering off.

Would be interesting to find out for definite. If it needed an unprecedented length of time and Hornets moving games then even doing 24 hours a day it’s still not what was seen as the long term plan. We can’t have another winter like the last one, but that follow up work does sound a decent safety net.

From last season:

Premier Pitches did it then. It’s just a case of everyone knowing whether the plan remains the same or what’s so much better about this pitch/associated work. If it’s now sorted for the long term, great.
