Week 23 Results

CRYSTAL PALACE 1 WATFORD 2

Tom Cleverley's superb second-half volley helped Watford come from behind to beat Palace. There were 3 who got this spot-on, and 1 more had the outcome.

IPSWICH 1 ROTHERHAM 0
Ipswich win the game with their only shot on target, as Rotherham have now gone 38 away games in the Championship without a win. There were 4 who had this spot-on, and another 8 got the outcome

WEST BROM 1 NORWICH 1
Substitute Jordan Rhodes grabbed an 83rd-minute equaliser for Norwich, but it was not enough to keep the Canaries in the Championship's top two. Only 2 (RSCOSWORTH and Blue4U2) got this spot-on, and 2 also had the outcome.

SUNDERLAND 1 LUTON 1
Both teams had a player sent off as their League One encounter ended all square. Just the 2 (eagledares and Sector4) had this spot-on, and 2 also got the outcome. There were 21 who predicted a win for Sunderland with 10 going for a 2-1 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

BURY 4 MK DONS 3
Bury came back from 3-1 behind with 18 minutes to go before grabbing a 91st minute winner. Nobody got this spot-on, but 9 did have the outcome.

NORTHAMPTON 3 CARLISLE 0
Managerless Carlisle's six-game winning run came to a shuddering halt when emphatically beaten by Northampton. Nobody had this spot-on, though 9 did get the outcome.

Wow. What a tough week this turned out to be. The total of 64 points achieved overall made it the second worst week of the season so far, only beaten by the 63 in Week 5. There were 11 spot-ons in total, though I thought there would have been more, but surprisingly there was little support for the 1-1 draws at West Brom and Sunderland. With only 31 outcomes it meant an incredible 9 members plus 2 no shows failed to disturb the scorer this week. Despite all this gloom there was one outstanding performance. It came from wessex_exile, by being the only one to have two 3 pointers -the wins for Watford and Ipswich - and with two outcomes he is the weeks top scorer with an impressive 8 points. Best of those with one spot-on were Sector4 and Blue4U2, as they both got a decent 6 points.

In the Premier With the top two sevebalo and noah4x4 both firing blanks, the late Norwich equaliser enabled RSCOSWORTH to close the gap by the 3 points gained from that game. On a low scoring week the only significant change in this division had mfb_cufc moving up three places, thanks to having the Ipswich 1-0 spot-on.

In Division One For the first time this season, and possibly the last, the top six remained the same as the previous week. At the top Sector4 took full advantage of a no show from Colukev, by increasing his lead to a decent 10 points. It is now 18 points back to the third, so an instant return to the Premier is looking more and more likely by the week. After wessex_exile got a decent 9 points in Week 19 I stated that this once permanent member of the Premier is going to need plenty more weeks like this in the second half of the season if he is to have any chance of a return to those lofty heights. Well he has done just that, and after scoring 8 for the second week running he moves up another four places, and is now just two points from the play-offs. Another solid week from unitedwhites, that included having the Watford 2-1 spot-on, moves him up two more places, and more importantly two points nearer to the play-offs.

THE TABLES (166 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Interesting tactic - all 3- 0's HappyGooner? The match selection/form does suggest six home wins and the pairings one hefty score.

So, six likely home wins including one 3-0 (from six) sounds like an almost guarantee of 8 points. However, unlike last week, I think this could be a bumper week with many players scoring double figures by forecasting six 'homes' with two spot on.
