If Wheater hadn't knackered his thumb we may have made them bat again...maybe.

Poll: Safe standing at football; yes, know or don't know?

Have a feeling the reserve young keeper is called Pepper so that should sort out the next oponents!

Unsure he knows the concept if winning in his own trade .

Essex have two keepers in Buttleman and Pepper, both not in the class of Fozzie.

Bet Fozzie is regretting retiring now Wheater is out for a couple of months. Obviously no confidence in Pepper or Buttleman as they have brought in a standby keeper. Tough on the guys in the background though.

Both young keepers unavailable, think Buttleman is at Uni and Pepper is recovering from appendix surgery, hence a loanee was required .
Fozzie currently is coaching at Worcestershire .

Think he must be giving Chris Hughton tips as it's all going pear shaped down in Brighton too.

If Hughton gets the boot at Brighton i’ll happily drive him up to Colchester so he can take over from McGreal.

Keeper situation at Essex is not dissimilar to Col U keeper situation. Plenty of each but take the best bits from each and you wont even then have the perfect keeper.
See the loan keeper at Essex did get five victims yesterday so must be half decent.

Did anybody else notice 14 year old Joe McGregor hit a ton in under 55 balls in Colchesters first match of the season last weekend? Suggest put a £1 on him to debut for Essex before age 18 and another £1 on an England debut before 21. I played against MarcusTrescothick when he was the same age and I think Joe is better. Utterly fearless against 90 mph bowling (where available!).

Tomorrow, Rob George Foundation Charity Six a Side Tournament at Castle Park featuring teams from Colchester, Shenfield, Essex University, Upminster, Cavaliers, 2 Para, Souwesters, CRGS 2013.....etc. It will be raining sixes. Format, each match 5 overs per team. Utterly manic pandemonium. Bar and BBQ. There is no football, so why not pop along? Free admission, but a donation to the charity appreciated.
