Trivia quiz for you all. 19:01 - Jul 1 with 2308 views | Thacks_Rabbits | Other half kindly bought me a framed print of Dale shirts through the ages which is really cool, classic kits by goodteamonpaper if anyone is wanting one. Just thought as a bit of fun would see if we could work out the squad numbers/likely players for the pre squad number days. I know a fair few but thought 1 answer only each would be good, or else tvos will do the lot 😂😂😂 I would post a photo but I am clueless so..... 34 - 39 number 5 61 - 63 number 4 68 - 69 number 9 77 - 79 number 3 79 - 80 number 6 86 - 87 number 10 91 - 93 number 2 (Pretty sure this was Andy Thackeray) 93 - 94 number 12 95 - 96 number 11 98 - 00 number 18 02 - 04 number 16 07 - 08 number 15 13 - 14 number 22 14 - 15 number 40 17 - 18 number 31 Be interesting to see if they are random or chosen as out stand out players, I am guessing the former! Have fun guys and girls. Cheers Thacks

Trivia quiz for you all. on 19:15 - Jul 1 with 1624 views | 442Dale | Great thread. 86/87, 10 was worn by quite a few players but Shaun Reid had it a lot, especially during the run-in when we stayed up. No. 2 in 92/93 was Thackeray. We had a different shirt in 91/92 and 2 was worn initially by Steve Whitehall up front before it was finally used at the back - sometimes by Paul Butler at CH with Reeves at RB and also Malcolm Brown in the traditional use of the number. Think Leonard wore it once too. I’ll leave the others for now whilst admitting that was more than one answer.

Thanks 442. My gut instinct for 10 86 - 87 was Lyndon, Steve Taylor or Ronnie Moore without checking. Got I forgot about Dave Sutton’s crazy numbering system!!! The shirt 91 - 93 is the blue with white sleeves with bits of blue in the white in the print. Think ensign or erra designed it from memory

En-S. It was only used in 92/93. Taylor started 86/87 in 8 before leaving, various others wore it before Simmonds arrived and took it. In those days we often had 10 being worn in midfield.

Jones is right. Connor was 27. I’ve always found it strange how once a player signs, even the bigger names, they tend to keep their number until they leave. Connor should definitely have moved to a traditional striker number - Michael Oliver had 9!

Michael Oliver generally had about 9 quid in his pocket as his mrs looked after the family finances, due to let’s say a love of horses and greyhounds! Really nice lad though and always paid back any borrowed cash, well to me anyway!

What rules are we working to? I want to guess till I’m right! If it’s prints it must be a memorable occasion, so I was thinking Connor against Coventry. Didn’t Grand score against Preston and then it get awarded to somebody else? Something in my head is saying Grand was 23 and McEvilly was 16. [Post edited 1 Jul 2019 20:06]

McEvilly took 18 after Jones went to Barnsley. Grand was 26, from memory. Actually can’t remember who had it before he came on loan, but almost certain Gavin Melaugh had 16 during the FA Cup run to round 5 and his goal at Wolves.

No. He usually wore 8 and didn’t arrive until the season after. 11 was Peake before he was shifted to left back and no.3 when Docherty lost the plot after a good start. The bad run coincided with Mark Stuart getting injured and he’d been wearing 9 a lot as we were scoring goals for fun for a while. When Stuart returned he was back in 11 and wasn’t anywhere near as good.

Didn't David Thompson wear number 11 when he came back on his second spell? Even though he played in his usual right wing position. That could have been the right year.

He always had his usual 7. Stuart started at 7 in 93/94 and was often playing on the right before switching to 11.

Which one? 93/94 was 12 looking at the list above and loads of players wore it. Including Milner probably.
