From what I can gather, the seizure of the British-owned oil tanker is Iranian retaliation for the seizure of one of their tankers by Gibraltar and our Royal Navy, on the grounds of breaking EU sanctions (oh the irony).
Iran has been threatening to seize a British tanker since this incident and the Navy has sent just one ship into Emirates waters to keep on eye on the situation. Despite already warding off one attempted seizure, the Navy were unable to arrive in time to stop this one.
Good test of Jeremy Hunt’s potential leadership now, albeit in his role as Foreign Secretary. The last thing we need is another escalated crisis given the internal one we are currently dealing with. England is divided, Scotland is making moves for another independence referendum and the Northern Irish are looking not to be sold out over back stop.
We need to distance ourself from the idiot in the White House and the gang of crazies that are advising him. The Iranians won't be a push over in their own backyard.

Firstly it's not a British ship, it's a Swedish ship flying under a FOC registered here because it's cheaper to do so....It is manned by several nationalities none of which are British, they include Filipinos and Russians plus a few others....Still naughty of Iran to swoop on it but a bit less of the jingoistic foaming at the mouth "They have nicked our boat" Wouldn't go amiss....

I am always amused by people who believe all the BBC / Guardian nonsense about Trump and consequently conclude he is stupid. So stupid that he is reportedly worth $3Bn, is married to a former supermodel and owns a highly successful hotel empire around the world that made over $400m profits last year and managed to become President of the USA when the really smart people had him at just 2% of the pre-election poll... what an idiot! The Iran deal was shockingly poor from the start.. Obama, that well-known genius of a US President sent $1.7Bn to Iran in CASH - pallets of the stuff, which has been used to fund terrorism across the globe, not to mention a further $50+B (some say as much as $150Bn) which was basically a bribe to stop the Iranians producing amounts of fissionable material that would make it possible for them to build nuclear weapons. Recently the Iranians announced (surprise surprise) that they had indeed managed to produce more nuclear material than they were supposed to and were consequently on their way to eventually building a bomb.
These incidents may well be the first moves towards destroying the nuclear facilities in Iran to prevent another rogue state from using nuclear bombs as a threat to the West. Don't try to blame Trump for any of this, it was all planned by Obama and his poodles in Europe, the involvement of Russia and China is intended to divide the West. No one has satisfactorily been able to explain why Iran, a country awash with oil reserves and sunshine wanted to move to nuclear energy in the first place if not for nefarious reasons.

Can't disagree with much of that apart from the Trump not stupid comment, he's a bumbling incoherent imbecile with all the tact of a caveman...also there are as many on the other side who believe all the BBC/Daily Mail shite that is spouted...None of this however has anything to do with the non British Tanker that has been intercepted and detained...That is purely Iran going tit for tat for the detention of their Tanker in Gibraltar, now the UN state that seizing Irans ship is legal because it broke the sanctions imposed by.....Oh yeah the UN, and Iran say that their seizing of the Swedish tanker is also legal as it was in Iranian waters....Which it was, the Hormuz straights are 21 miles wide but the actual channel that ships go through is only 2 miles and goes through their waters... and every tanker has to go through that channel so technically they are correct..It was in their waters. As for the nuclear point and those who are and are not allowed to have it and it is only my opinion but three of the biggest nut jobs in power are Trump, Putin and Kim Jong Un....And they all have it, and next week so will Boris...The 4 horsemen of the apocalypse come to pass....
