Trust meeting with the club 18:43 - Oct 31 with 4044 views442Dale

https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/10/meeting-with-the-club-5/

2544 season tickets sold in total.

On the country season tickets for students, it was specifically asked why this was not already in place after a commitment in September to have a ‘Freshers Week’:
https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/09/meeting-with-the-club-4/
And from the Trust September newsletter:
<<“We were contacted by a member with regards to first year students and the Exile season tickets. With such an early deadline, they were excluded from this with the deadline day falling before A-Level results day, meaning they had no confirmation or proof of address. The club agreed to take this on board and will be introducing a "Fresher's Week" later this month to allow those affected to purchase one.”>>

There was a request to the Trust, via the agreed methods, asking for the reasons for any delay in the agreements mentioned to be explained to supporters via their website. Unfortunately, that seems to have been unachievable and those fans who came up with the idea remain unsure why. Especially when you’d think turning up with a University letter confirming a student was on a course out of the area would be enough.

Some really interesting stuff in there as usual and thanks to the Trust for their work again. Please note their next formal meeting with the club is on 11/11/19. Questions can be sent by members via the email address in this link: https://www.daletrust.co.uk/2019/10/meeting-with-the-directors-4/

Don't know if this question has been asked and answered, but would the "print at home" ticket option also allow for an electronic pdf version much like a boarding pass. More convenient and eco-friendly.

I imagine this option is only viable at grounds with barcode scanners which register the ticket on the system.

What's to stop the same ticket being photocopied/printed 300 times?

No idea technically how this works, but the comment from the club was "The plan for 2020-21 is for a new ticketing system, include the ability to have supporters print tickets at home and have them scanned at the turnstiles". On this basis, once a unique ticket barcode has been scanned, the system must have the ability to void that barcode. Other clubs make it work. If it can read a barcode from a piece of paper is should be able to read one from a smart phone too, hence why I raised the point? We'll see in due course no doubt.

Any smart phone or tablet can scan and verify a unique bar or QR code. Issue the turnstile staff with the relevant apps and job done. This has been around for years.
Or install automatic turnstile staff if you want to go whole hog and save the expenditure of turnstile staff.

Or scrap the pay on the day increase and let people use cash at the turnstile so they don’t have to sort tickets in advance.

Unless of course, the numbers justify such a move.

There’s a good case for a cheaper in advance pricing if done properly. And by properly the tickets need to be easy to get hold of (home printing, e tickets etc) rather than with admin/post charges, queuing up in the rain to pick up tickets pre-paid for. Tell the customer why you prefer advance purchases ( plan policing, food, drink, staff. Save money to spend on nice stuff like playing budget), say you want to reward early adopters if that’s the case. Use the contact details you’re gathering for co-ordinated marketing. Ask people why they’re not buying again, remind them to buy again, flog groups of tickets to them. Sell them club shop tat.

My gut feel is most people decide more than 24 hours in advance they will attend a game. So, cheaper advance sales up to 24 hours before kick off with a slight price rise on the day would be justifiable IMO.

If you’ve already paid for something you’re more likely to commit to following through with it. So get people on the hook early and natural downturns in form shouldn’t affect bums on seats so quickly.

I also think the key thing the club need to address is making it easier to pay without cash.
Yes have an option to use cash but don’t make that the default option. Especially considering ~75% of retail sales are done by card and this will only grow. The current options are crap.

Example here, I find it easiest to persuade friends to come to games when the fixtures are more attractive. This usually means the games with bigger gates of home & away fans. Guess what, my friends like most of the population don’t carry cash. So they queue up with a few hundred other people to use the card machine to buy a ticket, miss 10 minutes of the game and have a crap start to their experience at Dale. This happened for the Sunderland game this season and the queue for the ticket office was full of pissed off people.
