League Two promotion race 11:10 - Mar 3 with 1472 viewsdurham_exile

This evening we have three intriguing fixtures

Exeter v Crewe
Plymouth v GRIMsby
Swindon v Scunthorpe

Swindon 34 66
Crewe 35 65
Exeter 35 64
Cheltenham 35 63
Plymouth 35 62
Northampton 36 58
Port Vale 36 56
COL U 36 55
Bradford 36 54

Let us be clear we are looking to secure 20 more points to guarantee a top seven finish.
Whilst the situation still remains in our own hands and feet nevertheless we remain rightly interested in other team's results and will do until the last games of the season.

A draw for Exeter and Crewe and defeats for Plymouth and Swindon would be the best case scenario this evening but realistically any points dropped by our competitors between now and the end of April should be warmly welcomed.

We need to win up to 7 of our last 10 games starting at Brunton Park on Saturday.

Sadly I don't think it matters what Crewe & Exeter do and for the life of me I can't see either Grimsby or Scunthorpe helping us tonight!

Regrettably, relying on other teams results is a result of our totally unpredictable and unacceptable performances over the past few games.

Guys I share your pain as well.

Sadly it is a matter of fact that we are dependent upon other results to assist us (we still can achieve top seven on our own results, but any assistance from other teams will only help us further).

At this stage of the season results can vary dramatically and pressure is a funny old thing. The crowd at Home Park will quickly get on their teams; backs if the result doesn't look favourable and Exeter v Crewe really need to be a draw.

I repeat any points dropped now by the 8 rivals is only welcome news. And if I were a supporter of one of those eight clubs I would want to see the Super U's drop points.

That's the way it is, there's nothing I can do,
That's just the way it is. As someone once sang!

But it's been a fight for 7th three seasons running and we've learnt nothing. Will we really this time? Season defining Saturday was called and it was.

If we want to keep our extremely remote chances of automatic promotion alive, we have to forego any hope of anything but 3rd place. For that reason, I'd want Crewe to beat Exeter (preferably heavily), Grimsby to pull off a miracle by winning at Home Park, and don't really care if Swindon win. lose or draw (though lose would be entertaining). A handful of red cards and non-career threatening but end of season mild injuries would help too...

Wessex if we managed to achieve automatic promotion this season then JM would expect to be Canonised!

If we fail for a fourth year running to achieve any form of promotion he should be fired preferably from a cannon.

Whatever happens we simply have to win at Brunton Park on Saturday.

LOL - nice work Durham

I've been to Brunton Park for a must win game before, and we did 2-0, but that was to avoid relegation - and what a day it was too! Here's hoping we have another such day on Saturday at the right end of a league table.

Wessex I was at that 2-0 game as well.

At 54 miles it is arguably my nearest away match.

Plymouth 2-0 up against Holloway and Co

Whilst Exeter 1-0 against Crewe

Awful set of results for us tonight

I see it is Cheltenham v Port Vale on Saturday - we need a Cheltenham victory

I have resigned myself to the Play-Offs at best but fear even that will fail

On the plus side it was good to see that Ipswich failed again

TS I remain confident of a top seven finish but we cannot afford any more abysmal performances in the last 10 cup finals.

Good news about the Poorman Road club.

I am hoping that Middlesbrough go down, another big name club in league one with Sunderland.
Also Bolton Wanderers etc

But we still have to get there!

Gerry definitely not
They will be playing in the North West Counties league the tenth tier of English football. Not even JM will take us there.

Or will he?

We would probably be the first Essex club to play in the North West Counties league so it would be quite an achievement.

McGreal spotted in the crowd at the Binners last night. Some on TWTD message board think he is doing a good job with us and would be an ideal replacement for Lambert. Other posters weren’t on drugs.

LB I read that JM ignores all posts on social media platforms.

The only way he will silence the doubters is to achieve promotion.

Can he do it

The truth is out there

Two up until end of season, with strikers proactive in getting back onside . Only capable if play with intensity, purpose and passion . Points make prizes, destiny is in our own hands if we are good enough and brave enough .

Poll: No half measure either 1 or 2 ?
