Week 4 Results

NORWICH 0 DERBY 1

Rooney with an 87th minute free-kick wins it for Derby to give them their first points of the season. Nobody got this spot-on, and only Blue4U2 had the outcome. 24 predicted a win for Norwich.

EVERTON 4 BRIGHTON 2
Everton have won each of their opening four games to a top-flight season for the first time since 1969-70, when they went on to win the title. Again nobody had this spot-on, but 25 did get the outcome.

READING 1 WATFORD 0
George Puscas hit the winner to maintain Reading's 100% league record and give the club their best start since the 1985-86 season, and end Watford's unbeaten start. Only 2 got this spot-on, and a further 9 had the outcome.

BLACKPOOL 2 LINCOLN 3
Two goals in the last 5 minutes win it for Lincoln as they came from behind to beat 10-man Blackpool, and maintain their 100% start to the season. Another game with no 3 pointer, though 8 did have the outcome.

MK DONS 1 IPSWICH 1
Daniel Harvie rescued a draw as MK Dons brought Ipswich's 100% start in League One to an end. Well done to TheHappyGooner for being the only ones to get this spot-on, and nobody had the outcome. 25 (93%) predicted a win for Ipswich.

OXFORD v CREWE POSTPONED

PETERBOROUGH 3 SWINDON 1
Peterborough came from behind to win their seventh straight home league match for the first time since 1984. The first goal was Peterborough's 4,000th in the Football League. 3 got this spot-on, and another 14 had the outcome.

TRANMERE 2 SCUNTHORPE 0
James Vaughan scored twice as Tranmere picked up their first three points of the season. Well done to thrillseeker for being the only one to have this spot-on, and a further 15 got the outcome.

EXETER 2 CAMBRIDGE UNITED 0
Exeter picked up their first home win of the season with a comfortable victory, as Cambridge concede their first league goal this season. 5 got this spot-on, and another 9 had the outcome.

COLCHESTER 3 OLDHAM 3
The U's throw away 2 points after leading 2-0 and 3-2, as Oldham get a 89th minute equaliser to make it 6 games undefeated away to the U's. Nobody had this spot-on, and just Pinault_Noir got the outcome. 25 (93%) predicted a win for Colchester.

CRAWLEY 1 SOUTHEND 1
Nathan Ralph equalised in the 84th minute to give Southend their first point of the season. Well done to Blue4U2 for being the only one to get this spot-on, and nobody had the outcome. 24 (89%) predicted a win for Crawley with 12 (44%) going for a 2-0 in what was the weeks most predicted score.

This was to be an 11 game week, but became 10 when the Oxford v Crewe game was postponed 35 minutes before kick-off because a Crewe player tested positive for Covid-19. "We didn't know he was having a test, he had it because he's got a young baby and he just wanted to make sure his family's alright," Crewe manager David Artell told BBC Radio Stoke. Ironically this was to be the extra game this week. He is the second player from Crewe to test positive this week after teammate Ryan Wintle came off unwell during his side's EFL Trophy game with Newcastle U23's on Tuesday night. Surely the Crewe staff should have been in isolation, and today's game called off sooner. The postponement was the second EFL game this week to be called off because of Covid-19 - Grimsby's match with Bradford was postponed on Monday after a positive test last week. I don't think League 1 and 2 players are being routinely tested for Covid-19, so you have to wonder how many other players are carrying on playing with the virus, especially those with no symptons.

After the good start to the season we have had, with the first three weeks producing over 500 points, it was back down to earth this week, as we had the worst 10 game week since Week 34 in the 2018/19 season, with only 13 spot-ons, and a total of 121 points overall. At least the 82 outcomes made sure everybody put some points on the board. The only member got 2 spot-ons was thrillseeker, the wins for Peterborough and Tranmere, and with 3 outcomes he is the weeks top scorer with an excellent 9 points. Best of those who had one 3 pointer was Blue4U2 and ghughes who both also got 5 outcomes to give them a very decent 8 points.

Week 5 will now be a 7 game week to make up for the postponed game this week.

In the Premier By having the Exeter 2-0 spot-on TheFatGooner maintained the top spot. Back into the second place he held for the first two weeks is thrillseeker after his top scoring performance. Down into the final Charity Shield spot is basher2010, but still only a point off the top. The main changes to this division has noah4x4 and Blue4U2 both moving up a couple of places, but with only 7 points separating the Charity Shield places from the relegation spots, this league has the makings of being a right cracker.

In Division One To average a point a game is a great benchmark for winning any league, and ghughes11 has managed to do that since Week 1. By having the Reading 1-0 spot-on, he maintained that impressive average, and at the same time increased his lead to a decent 6 points as his nearest pursuers concodman and wessex_exile had to settle for 3 outcomes each. Back up a couple of places into fourth is medicine_man, as he was another to benefit from having the Exeter 2-0 spot-on. Four outcomes keeps unitedwhites in a play-off place, and getting the Peterborough 3-1 spot-on moves oxfcolu back into the final play-off spot. The biggest climber in this league was Pinault_Noir, who continued his recent improvement by moving up five places, and only a point from the play-offs. Just like the Premier things are very tight at this early stage, and there is only 4 points separating 6th to 14th.

THE TABLES (35 out of 280 played)
(Tie-breaker: Most 3 pointers, and then the first to post)

Having no crowds is producing a training ground atmosphere, many more goals and more unexpected away wins. Past analytical data has become irrelevant. Will cease using the super computer and revert to gut feel.

.....and if you wanted proof, consider today’s results. Nobody would scored a 3 pointer for West Ham, Villa or Spurs. Few would have picked a 1 pointer. Bonkers or what?
