Pigbag 21:32 - Apr 24 with 3429 viewssdm1508

Hi all

Just been watching the story of top of the pops. This one was 1982 and they had Pigbag - Pappas got a brand new pig bag and my Mrs just asked me how it came about that that song is played at QPR. I hate to say this but I don't actually know. Would someone shed some light for me please

I've often wondered too. When lockdown started I made up a USB to play in the car with all the songs I could find that the Rangers play over the tannoy. Some, if not most are rubbish, but it sort of made me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Funny I like it best when we sing it without the music at away games.

Although now I can't wait to hear it again at LR.

I think that is how it started - organically at away games. Just fitted a ‘Hoops’ chant.

I saw them once, supporting Gang of Four at the Lyceum. Bit of a novelty act.

Apparently the matchday DJ tried it out and it stuck.

Fairly sure we were singing it ‘away’ before it was adopted semi-officially at HQ, but prepared to be corrected.

I remember we started singing it the season we got to the quarter final of the FA cup clearly remember it being loud at old Trafford and sure that was before the club used it

Boro have always used Paul Oakenfold's $hit remake.

Only Rangers go for the original free form anarcho-jazz version.

I'm pretty sure Neil, aka Harold Bishop started it at an away game in the early/mid 90's.

Definitely true. Long before the LR DJ picked up on it.

I recall it starting around that time and becoming more popular.

At Old Trafford the stadium DJ or whoever played it pre-kick off, but cut it very short when he saw the reaction it got in the away end.

I recorded that show on Friday evening so will have to watch it soon.

Wimbledon played the Steptoe and Son theme music when introducing us at the infamous Hateley ear cupping cup game at Selhust Park.

I remember singing it at Liverpool away in the early 90's, think we drew 1-1. Gallen scored for us

I quite enjoy this series it's really well done. The 1983 one is great. Some of Mel Giedroyc's finest work.
