Nice pub for Tea on Saturday evening 15:17 - Jul 25 with 7058 viewsmodelboydave

I'm back home in Rochdale this weekend with the family. Saturday PM i said i would take the Mrs and Kids to a decent pub for some grub.

Requirements are...out of Rochdale somewhere, out on the Moors or countryside, decent grub, kids friendly, probably with 7/8 mile of Rochdale.

Any Recommendations?

The Healey is good. You could have a walk in Healey Dell if the weather is okay.

Saturday PM? Pie in the Sandy?

Or Owd Betts. Not been for a while but food was excellent last time and they’ve a beer garden out the back if it’s nice.

Get over Ripponden way… The Alma Inn, Malthouse, Boothwood, Beehive, all lovely pubs with good food, in the countryside and within your radius, or thereabouts…

Incidentally, have you been in the King Bill recently?

Called in for a sunny pint last Friday afternoon after a walk up on the moors at the back. Relaxing it wasn't. The owners have waiting staff pouncing on customers asking "Would you like more drinks?". One couple were asked by three different staff in the space of two minutes - just after they'd been served drinks in the pub garden

Not been in for many years, tbh.

Too busy exploring every other watering hole in a 50 mile radius, no doubt!

I'm not averse to exploring the Great British Pub within any radius, especially with much more leisure time these days

I expect you'll expand your radius in due course, with the circles within which you move

Enjoy!

The Oxford on Whitworth Road is pretty decent.
Not far from Healey Dell or walk over the moors towards Brown Wardle

Appreciate all the suggestions. Does the red lion in whitworth do food then? And the place in Tod, is that the pub known as Lumbutts?

I will get the Mrs to look into the other places

Thanks all.

Top Brink is the pub in Lumbutts, which is in between Walsden and Tod, albeit off the beaten track.

stop press. The Mrs is thinking the Oxford followed by a nice walk around Whitworth Res with the Kids. Spent half my time walking around that Res back in the day.

If the woman from Del Monte has said yes, then it's all over, but I would also recommend Owd Betts. Carry on up Norden road til you get there. Smallish car park outside but parking opposite over looking the reservoir. Bit of history of Bet inside, country pub feel with seating round the back - picnic benches on grassed area with no traffic. 3 hand pulled beers. Jackson's farm rag puddings on the menu and food is good.
The walk round reservoir with views to Manc is about 1/2 an hour+ depending on the pace you set and is almost all off road.

Up the Dale - NOT for sale!

Ramsbottom

Technically by borders, Owd Betts is within the Norden boundary. However, due to the fookin dimwits at the council when they replaced all the stone walls, they put the Norden sign about half a mile too far down the road near the water pumping station…

Sorry Rob, it’s not Upper Ramsbottom where you live 👍
