University Research for Dissertation Purpose 00:11 - Aug 6 with 708 views | RitchieNC | University Research for Dissertation Purpose - About foreign ownership of English Football Club. Hello. I have four questions and would like the thoughts of fans about it. Hopefully, that some of you will provide their opinions to all four questions or at least one of them. Thank you. 1 - What do you think about the foreign ownership of English football clubs? 2 - What are your thoughts about the European Super League and the club’s owners involvement in it? 3 - Do you think the Profit and Sustainability rule and the Financial Fair Play rule came into play due to the increase in foreign ownership of clubs and why? 4 - What are your views on the ’50 + 1’ rule and should it be implemented in England? I have created a google form and the link can be found below. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf6fcIDQJ3V37JQMKgTV4Df6pyrJfLLXD45x73C In case, you want to contribute but do not want other people to read about your views. Please do not hesitate to contribute. Thank you. | | | | |
University Research for Dissertation Purpose on 09:15 - Aug 6 with 671 views | TheOldOakTree | 1. Foreign ownership of our football clubs, our national utilities, property in London, our newspapers, ultimately it is all bad for the country. It’s too late to put it right, we have sold off the silver and Britain is now bankrupt. Even worse than foreign owners are British businessmen who don’t want to pay tax in Britain, so they ‘move’ abroad and then with the alleged £4billion they save, we let them buy one of our clubs. It’s all rotten to the core. 2. I can’t wait for the ‘big’ clubs, their overpaid divas and their plastic armchair supporters to piss off and play in a Soccer World Series, and leave the rest of us to enjoy our footie. 3. I don’t think it necessarily related to foreign owners. The concept of buying success and then pissing off and leaving a club bankrupt is not sport, whether you’re a foreign owner or British. 4. I’ve never seen anything run by a committee that was a success. PS Realistically, for most fans, I would think it depends on how an owner runs the club, not on where they made their money. If you ask Ipshite, Wrexham, Leicester, Man City fans they would all probably be happy with foreign owners and there are many clubs (some nearer to home) with British owners that are making a right pigs ear of things. University Research for Dissertation Purpose on 12:34 - Aug 6 with 627 views | TheOldOakTree | Just to add to the above comments, are you asking non-league supporters? I understand why you would want the opinion of the cream of Essex, but if you asked supporters of Essex’s third team down at Saarfend, they are all spitting fire at the British owner they’ve had for years. I’m sure his intentions have always been good, but his application has been questionable to say the least. They are ecstatic at the thought of an Aussie owner, to hopefully stop the pantomime they’ve lived through. Are you correlating the replies with how well the respondents team are doing? Then there’s the racist and ethical element to the question. An Aussie owner might be more palatable to some than say a Saudi. How do Chelsea feel about dirty Russian money now? I’m guessing some of them will have changed their viewpoint. I would argue that it's even more complicated than that. The Smoggies have a British owner who they adore, because he's a Boro fan and local boy that's done very well. Similar to our fans idolising an 'Essex-boy' manager that statistically, you could argue it terms of wins (so far) is one of the worst we've ever had. We have a British owner whose first words to us were "I'm a West Ham fan". If like me, you are one of the very large number of people walking this earth, that think Worst Ham fans are a bunch of ###ts, then it's going to cloud your opinion. Obviously most people are going to tell you they want a British owner, but if the question was ‘would you prefer a British owner who’s run out of money and got no idea what they are doing, or would you prefer a decent foreign owner who will invest in your club and push you up the league’, then, if they are being honest, I think the answers might be different. Being two-faced is an attribute that lurks in all of us. With regard to the European Super League, you only have to look at US College football (i.e. rugby with helmets), they can get crowds of over 100,000, so it is possible to have a life after the Prima Donnas have all disappeared in pursuit of more money (I appreciate you can only have one Prima Donna, but you get my drift). Finally (thank god, I hear you say), I believe the 50+1 rule exists in Germany and you could argue that Bayern Munich aren’t doing to badly, but I would suggest that the Germans are different to us. I can believe that a group of Germans are capable of agreeing a best way forward, whereas British, or at least the English are very different and egos and/or personal interests come first. You only have to look at this site to see how everyone’s got a different idea, but we all know best. If we were put in charge of Col U we would all fall out within a week, although I’m sure we could have managed 2 (nearly three) relegations without running up £30M debts. Good luck with your dissertation, ……..in the meantime, can I have a Big Kahuna Burger…. and also a McFl@rry. [Post edited 6 Aug 2024 13:14]
