We're just circling the drain, aren't we? 17:23 - Oct 19 with 5712 viewstheselector

New managers, new players and none of it seems to ever make much difference. We're still shit and it's only a matter of time before we go down again. Just wondering if any other supporters can see this changing, and if so, how?

Why did Marti (or Christian), bring in so many new players ? They are no better than what we had and it seems to have destroyed any spirit in the squad.

This club is cursed.

Today was very worrying. Up against one of the poorest sides in the division and never looked like winning once they equalised. Fox's performance was Gus Caesar tier.

If we can't win games like today, or even look capable of doing so, then this looks like it will be the season we drop.

So we'll be shite against Coventry and then beat Leeds and Burnley from nowhere for no reason, because it's what we do.

Never knowingly right.

There Isn't a club In this league that we'll beat not one hence why we're bottom of the league.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Whoever is overseeing recruitment has to take some responsibility surely? Most of the new lads are League 1 standard at best. Pompey were younger, fitter, faster, closed us down brilliantly and wanted it more than us. The Championship is leaving us behind in terms of quality and athleticism.

I'd love that - but we are not that team anymore. We lack that guts & desire that we've always had. I loved being "plucky" Rangers who gave them all a punch in the face.

We just aren't built that way anymore. We roll over, no guts, no bloody fight & certainly no pride in that shirt.

What we used to do in my book. So far this season seems different other than Sheffield United away.

Our home form is still garbage so if our away form becomes half as good as the previous two seasons then we will drop this time. The players who have come in have seemingly made the team a bit weaker so we will have to wait until January to change it which is probably wishful thinking.

The best thing about the championship is any team can beat anyone on their day. Except for us, this lot ain't capable of beating an egg

Also, what is the long term direction? Feels like the board pinned all their financial hopes on getting a new stadium and becoming property developers. When that hasn't worked out, they've just allowed the club to drift.

I hope Ruben doesn't read this, poor guy pumping millions in to the club ensuring that we still exist.

He puts his faith in the 'football people' that he appoints and so far during his tenure that hasn't worked out too well.

I repeat; during his tenure. What you say could well be applicable to the previous owner who totally wrecked our club and then p1ssed off.

The most disturbing thing was for that last 15 mins the players were so quiet, but so unlikely to score. It's one thing being set and focused. We just looked beaten.

And the Morgan introduction - I thought he did ok after an understandably tentative start, but you don't often get a player come in that nobody around you has heard of.

That may be a failing on us, perfectly possible, but it can't be any stretch shirley for that to be a statement to Kim Jong Nourry that, following his summer stats-orgy, this is all they have?

If the lumping it unsuccessfully towards Frey, bypassing the admittedly non existent midfield, was the same sort of statement I'm less impressed. That bit is your job Marti.

Fox's performance, if you can call it such, was infinitely worse. At least Gus Caesar was trying to ply his trade at the highest level.

I had my doubts about the squad that we had assembled this season, but never thought that we'd be bottom. Pompey were abject, yet we gifted them their victory.

Aside from Nardi, the summer recruitment was very poor. The other signings made little sense to me as they didn't address the weaknesses in our squad.

At the end of last season, it was clear that we needed:
- A keeper to replace the out-going Begovic
- A central defender to cover for the injury prone JCS
- One or two creative midfielders who provide spine and can pass forward
- A striker

Instead, we signed a raft of number 10s that we don't need. We already had Chair and Anderson in the building so what was the point of recruiting Dembele, Saito and Madsen? They may well be decent enough players under the right circumstances but in our position they're a luxury we can ill afford.

As a result, the same problems persist. The midfield is non-existent, with damning statistics for tackles, interceptions, passes completed, etc. Field is often operating alone and Hayden is a big miss. Granted, Isaac may have been out of our price range this season but such was his impact on the team that when he returned to his parent club it was obvious we needed to find an able replacement. In the Championship, you need to earn the right to play by imposing yourself in midfield. Teams who concede the midfield area rarely win games.

The defence is now porous, conceding an averaging of over 2 goals per game. By getting over excited about JCS' performances last season, the club lost focus on how injury prone he is and didn't seek cover. As a result, we're now having to play Dunne in JCS' position, a move which simultaneously weakens both central defence and the right-back spot Jimmy's vacating. Today Marti tried to paper over the cracks by switching to a back 3 but sadly Fox was very rusty and turned in arguably his worst performance in blue and white hoops.

The most concerning aspect for me is the current lack of options in the squad to address these problems. Our short-term hopes rest on the return of Messrs Clarke-Salter and Colback. Both need to return to action asap, hit the ground running, stay fit and avoid suspensions, at least until January. That's a big ask.

The recruitment has been imbalanced. Letting Armstrong and Dykes go and leaving us with one traditional number nine and a striker who needs a full season in the EFL was not good planning.

However, you have forgotten about Morrison who looks like he could be the back-up CB for JCS and in Varane, I think we tried to recruit the athletic CM that you were hoping for ?

No energy, no leaders, no fight, no desire, no pace, no goalscorers, no midfield, no imagination and a leaky defence. Doesn't bode well.

Even the points we have come from a lucky win v Luton, equally lucky draws v Wednesday, Wall and Sheffield Utd and failing to win an absolute gimme v ten man Plymouth.

Worrying times indeed.

Agree with a lot of that but Portsmouth are poor side. They just found somebody worse than them yesterday. That happened to be us.
Unless something changes we’ll be relegated by March .

We've been flirting with relegation for years, but it feels like this year we're taking it out for a movie and dinner, nightcap at a fancy bar then checking in to a hotel and smashing its back doors in.

The lack of drive yesterday was worrying... we're used to seeing an element of chaos when we're chasing games but the monotonous, one-paced play was completely uninspiring. Madness that we're selling out the ground when we stink it up so badly.

Problems all over the pitch but no one able to put it right, even Cook was quiet (vocally) yesterday, probably as he knew he was playing horribly. Fox will get deserved pelters for his contribution to both goals, but Paal also had the look of someone who'd won a raffle to get picked, Paul Bruce levels of distribution.
