It's clear 20:20 - Jan 5 with 1508 viewssaint_04

This club has accepted mediocrity.

We aren’t going up this season and it’s starting to feel like the club are fine with that.

Too many “maybe Championship-quality” players.
Too many projects.
No spine. No leaders. No standards.

If the club actually wants to progress, we need:

An inspirational captain, a true leader who grabs the game and players by the scruff of the neck - should be the first name on the team sheet

A dominant, authorative, presence of a goalkeeper

Commanding body on the line centre-backs, not shirkers with stinking attitudes

Centre midfielders who control and dominate going forwards & backwards

And a solid out and out dominant striker who scores goals, holds the ball up getting us up the pitch & brings others into play

As a fan, I wouldn't be so bothered if the players aren't quite good enough but gave it 100% game in game out but we don't see that. Where's the captain demanding & driving these standards?

Oh, They're pros all right. They have shown that they are very good players so we all know that they are a bunch of skiving bxstards, stealing a living.

"They have shown that they are very good players."

I haven't seen that. Very good players consistently play well above average, average players occasionally do, below average players almost never do. What I've seen in our team is a mixture of below average and average players. The worst of them are in the most important positions: goalkeeper and centre forward: Bazunu/McCarthy, Archer/Downs.

Our most consistent player was Shea Charles, until he got injured. We miss him because our central midfield is very weak. But, even he isn't much above the Championship average. Scienza and Fellows gave a few good performances but they are inconsistent and neither stop nor score many goals, which is what really affects results. As for the rest.....no one has consistently played well above average.

I don't think they are skiving; they are just playing how they would normally. The underlying problem is that Sport Republic's recruitment has been below average, especially in the key positions. As saint 04 says, they have left us with a mediocre squad.

Are people still trotting out the old 'those badly behaving kids are really letting the supply teacher down' argument?

Other than a very poor keeper we have a squad that any other manager in the league would swap theirs for in a second. Fans seem oblivious to just how poor the standard is in this league.

The reason we are where we are is appointing utterly crap managers. The Belgian Ginger Computer game nerd didn't have a clue and Ruben Selles MkII is just as bad.

Any experienced FL manager would get us doing far better. I'd be 100% certain that we could have even appointed Warnock in the Summer and would have made the playoffs.

Our team has the weakest spine in the Championship. Managers of other Championship clubs would not want it in their team. Would they swap their current goalkeepers for Bazunu, McCarthy or Long? Would they want Downs or Archer instead of their current centre forward? If he weren't always injured, Ross Stewart might find a taker. Our full-backs/wing-backs are 2 of the poorest defenders in the Championship, and opposition managers know that and are taking full advantage of their weakness.

You could see from the results last season, just how weak this squad was and it hasn't got any stronger with the loss of our 2 best players, Ramsdale and Fernandes. We are where Derby were when they went down with an equally weak squad in 2008: lower mid-table, hovering above the relegation zone.

'Our most consistent player Shea Charles'

I'm sorry but what was he consistent at?

He has played 44 games for us and scored none.
He was on loan to Sheffield Wednesday and played 43 and scored one.

I cant remember many assists either,

I wouldn't disagree; Warnock knows this League.

He told Gary Rowett to get Oxford to sign their decent CB Helik in the summer, and said to him that he would keep them up.

OK, they may well still go down, but Helik has been good for them, and is exactly the sort of player we should have been in for in the summer.

He was a consistent defensive midfielder controlling central midfield. Without him, the opposition take control of it easily. It's a pity he got injured because Flynn Downes hasn't been as good.

Defensive midfielders rarely score goals. They're there to prevent the other team's attacks developing.

I echo this, also when you watch him closely he takes far too many touches slowing us down. Doesn't affect play at either end much to be honest, a good player should be good at at least one of these.

I said our keeper was poor but other than that we have good players for this level.

"you could see from results last year how weak this squad is" Yes, in the PL!!! We aint in that league anymore. Most teams in this league have assembled their entire squads for a few million in total!

Manning is decent at this level, Roerslev has around 100 PL appearances, Downs was great when we got promoted, any club in this league would take Charles or Jander, THB has played for England, Edwards was great in this league last year, Stephens has hundreds of PL appearances to his name. This lot are miles away from being the weakest players in the league.

Can you really not see that the biggest problem is that we have a manager who doesn't have the first clue what he's doing? It's like watching an episode of that old Ch4 show Faking It.

No good talking about other Managers.
We're stuck with the one we've got.
As is with the squad of player we have, We're stuck with them.
Same with owners, We're stuck with them.
Taking all this into consideration, nothing is going to change,
We're in for a bumpy ride.

Defensive midfielders can score goals, look at Victor Torp at Coventry hes scored 7 in 23 games.
I didn't notice him controlling central midfield for us,the team did well enough without him when Tonda took control at the beginning.

Do we really want to go up? This team could never compete in the Prem, and we would come straight backdown with perhaps the lowest ever points

Just write off this season and maybe SR will have a rethink in the summer (maybe!!)

Shea is decent.
Anyone that watched him play for his country against the Germans would say that he's a very competent midfielder.
He was Man Of the Match against the Germans & that's says that he's half decent.

"Just write off this season" players already have.
With just a couple of exceptions (Scienze & Fellows) the rest of the squad already have written off this season.
They are perfectly happy picking extorioate salaries going thru the motions in Championship.

100%

When you look back at how we played when TE was just an interim boss - compared to how we've been playing ever since he was given the job full time - what changed?

The answer is nothing.

Eckert is still playing the same formation with 3 at the back. He hasn't changed - and probably won't because he's a stubborn git who, just like Will Still and Russell Martin before him, have all attended coaching schools where they've learnt/been taught to coach one way & one way only. They're frightened - or incapable - of changing things. It's their way or the highway. We all know that a good manager changes things during a game if it's going badly. The three above aren't capable - because they don't know how and know only one way of playing & must stay within their comfort zones.

So I blame the players every bit as much as the manager. Those same players who excelled when he was interim manager are exactly the same players several weeks on... and yet they now bottle it and can't be arsed to put a shift in - the Boro away game being the perfect example.

Our manager is shite but we're stuck with him. As for the players ; they should all hang their heads in shame at their performances since TE was permanently appointed.

It's clear that until we sign some players built like brick shit houses and able to run, tackle, break up play and make surging bursts forward we will continue to get bullied and underachieve. Those in charge need to wake up and put this right because it's been a major problem for far too long now. Spors did say he was aware of it and would sort it but he hasn't other than bringing in Quarshie who is a work in progress. This squad simply isn't big enough or physical enough to cope with today's style of football and will continue to get brushed aside.
