Inspired by the three favourite albums thread and bored silly at work, I've taken the bold decision to launch a thread titled, "Three favourite films of all time".
In no particular order:
Rushmore It's a wonderful life Miller's Crossing
Fulham FC: It's the taking part that counts

watch Monsters Inc.
It's about a Monster who moves out of the house and has to hang out with a bunch of new monsters in Monstropolis and .... oh crap.
Now that is one I have seen, and I am sure it had a long term effect on my middle daughter who is now 12 and when I am tucking her in at night she often will ask me to push close the cupboard door and when I ask her why she always replies "I just don't like it being half open

I saw an old clip of her telling a story in some B&W Mid-60's thing she was wearing just a corset and suspenders. Very tidy.
Ice cold is such a good film too.
Beer and Beef has made us what we are - The Prince Regent

"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the Earth all one's lifetime." (Mark Twain)

Animated movies are shit. Especially the new computery ones.
Every single fking one of them is the exact same thing and the CGI kills all the emotion anyway.
He's a new toy and he has to hang out with a bunch of old toys and it's a fish out of water story.
He's a race car and he has to hang out with a bunch of old cars and it's a fish out of water story.
He's an ant from a village and has to hang out with ants from a city or something and it's a fish out of water story.
He's a fking ogre from a swamp and has to hang out with royalty and it's a fish out of water story.
He's a fish from a reef thing and he fking ends up in some sort of fking ocean and it's a fish out of water story. Literally.
absolute tosh, if you mean all kids films are based on a hero going on a journey and winning the day then yes all kids films are the same but then you could say every mafia film is the same, every action film, every war film. It's pure snobbery to dismiss them
The new computer generated ones are very good in the main. Finding Nemo was a classic, Toy Story, Wall-E, Happy Feet, up were all very good
You can tell i have a kid and watch these a lot

Historical pedantry point: The South Wales Borderers at Rorke's Drift were almost entirely Brummies. So highly unlikely they sang Men of Harlech at the end, which is a shame 'cos its a great scene.
Also the private who in the film is portrayed as a ne'er-do-well who turns out to be a hero was apparently in real life an exemplary soldier who never touched a drop of booze....and turned out a hero. Can't remember the bloke's name I'm afraid - Henry something?
Tbf to the film, I think it makes it quite clear that the invasion of Zululand was a put-up job and unjustified - there's a whole section at the start with a missionary making the point. Doesn't really detract from the squaddies concerned imo.

Poitier is cool as feck but you get the impression he is playing a version of himself. Steiger's acting is a masterclass.
Talking of acting masterclasses, you won't see much better than Olivia Colman and Peter Mullan worthy Bafta-winning efforts in Shane Meadow's leading man/alter ego Paddy Considine's searing 2011 directorial debut 'Tyrannosaur' as just shown on Film 4. Reminiscent of fellow great actor turned director Gary Oldman's Nil By Mouth,Tyrannosaur is a strong meat must watch - just make sure your kids don't see it.

Agree that Life of Brian is the best comedy ever, but don't forget Blazing Saddles, The Producers (original), Holy Grail and In Bruges, all not yet mentioned.
Others not yet voted for: No Country For Old Men, A Bridge Too Far and almost anything with Fred Astaire or made by Powell and Pressburger.
