Super U's to unseat the Chairboys this afternoon in 09:40 - Jan 13 with 1139 viewsdurham_exile

Lets keep it quick and simple this week. Last week was a second half horror show after Kyel Reid's indiscretion.

Now I'm not cynical, but I wonder if it was a deliberate act, because there is no other reason for such apparent stupidity and the three game ban essentially means that he is unlikely to ever play for the U's again. An inauspicious ending to his U's appearances. Anyway we move on.

The defeat really hurt the U's not just the result but the second half capitulation to a very poor side.

JM has a lot to do to get back in the faithful's good books. Leaving Szmodics out for reasons of fatigue (which ironically worked against his £1m transfer to Bournemouth) because all the old demons that have plagued his career came back to the forefront of people's minds.

Forget all the transfer speculation, which has largely been JM and newspaper generated. Szmodics remains a U's player so lets play him and let him score some goals. This approach of promotion of interest and want away generated by local management has been nonsense and has both unsettled the player and the side.

Still the December Player of the Month Award has gone to Sammie Szmodics for his 5 match, 5 goals and 1 assist performance. A brace today would be very welcome.

Luton have no such issue with hot prospect Danny Hylton who carries on playing and scoring. Similarly billy Kee at Accrington who show no ill effects from scoring lots of goals regularly.

The U's should instead be looking forward to Prosser and Dickenson returning in order to strengthen the promotion push and this unnecessary speculation is both harmful and irritating.

JM has hinted at changes, dropping Wright would be helpful today and playing Mandron and Guthrie with Szmodics just behind.

Something along the lines of a 3,4,1,2 formation

Walker

Jackson Eastman Kent

Vincent-Young Murray Comley Loft

Szmodics

Mandron Guthrie

On the bench will we see Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe with Courtney Senior hopefully with Gilmartin James Hanlan Wright and Kpekawa

Gareth Ainsworth will be looking for a double over his fierce rivals, this will mean that JM and his charges must step up to the plate in order to get a result at the Chairboys.

A feisty atmosphere in Buckinghamshire will only add to the occasion. Enjoy the game.

Leeds playing at the Binners and the Us away to Wycscum so what am I doing this afternoon? DI bloody Y. Not the best planning on my part.

After last week's tactical disaster and subsequent capitulation McGreal needs to ensure a positive result. Most of the playoff contenders now have at least a game in hand over the Us and a loss this afternoon would probably see one or two of them overtake us in the race for at least 7th place.

Good to see Inniss back and with Wright starting there are two changes from the predicted XI .

Pleased to see Prosser on the bench.

Difficult to understand this defeat, 15 shots 3 on target but we find ourselves three down

Another hammering it seems. Those recent days of clean sheets are over but then, we have 'scored' a clean sheet ourselves in more than a quarter of our games this season so the writing has been on the wall for a while.

Szmodics ahould have played last week as you rightly say Durham and management's inexperience is inevitably being shown for what it is.
For us to have had a chance of challenging we needed to win games we were drawing against the Chesterfields etc, but we simpy didn't.

There's a way to go yet but it doesn't look as though there is the relevant motivation from the top nor from within the individual players themselves to be near the top seven. It's a pity as from what I have seen we have some decent players at the moment.

Never a better time to play Wycombe. They have so few fit players they can name just 5 subs and they have 4 (I think) loanees making their debut. Sounds like we were the better side first half but definitely not in the second. Plenty of chances but good goalkeeping and/or poor finishing mean we are almost certain to lose.

We all wanted Innis back in the side but since his return we have shipped 7 goals in 2 games. Coincidence? We looked pretty secure at the back when he was out injured.

All ?
Unless I saw another game last week Innes, did not play .
League double JM, hold your head in shame , coupled with home cup defeat, might require a lay down in a dark room

Apologies, I thought he played last week. Maybe I should give him time to get back up to speed, but the change from several clean sheets to the last two weeks is scary.

The so called highlights suggest that Walker should have saved the beasts header (how did he stoop so low, obviously limbo dancing in Wycombe high street!). Their second was a wicked deflection. Their third and Szmodics' goal were both good strikes.

So where does that leave us. Chasing the top seven rather than the top three. A shocking fortnight of results has really stuck the boot in.

If we have signed a promising non league player with 34 goals this season he should at least make the bench!!!! Inexcusable from JM.

Is Sammie leaving or not, this must be sorted this week otherwise the distraction threatens to derail any promotion bid.

Grimsby Town now becomes a must win and then we play at Port Vale again looking for the maximum return.

Failure to obtain 6 points and we can probably look forward to yet another year in the basement league!!!!!

Grim times indeed.
