Costs you £3.20 to get to and from town on First Bus.
Then is it another £3.00 on Park & Ride?
£6.20 just to get to Cuckoo Farm? Who will pay that?
OK, a First Bus Rover is merely £4.00 But buses from the Water Tower are every 30 minutes. So will a Colchester Rover also cover the slightly closer Park & Ride bus?
"We will be checking if parked cars have bought a ticket".
But what happens if you don't park a car at the Park & Ride?

Arriva has now confirmed that 'Colchester Day Rovers' (£4.00) legitimately purchased on other Colchester Arriva services are NOT valid on the 'Park & Ride' as that is operated by Essex County Council and separately costs £3.00 . So we must pay twice if we travel via town by that route even though in the same travel zone. But two adults plus two kids can buy a £5 group save on the P & R if they travel together.
However, £4.00 'Colchester Day Rovers' are valid to the Water Tower, Mill Road on other First Bus or Arriva services. But it is a far longer walk via Olympic Way. Or you can get a bus to the Dog & Pheasant, but it is not as regular as a number 8 or #61 or #65.
However, Regular concession bus passes ARE accepted on the Park & Ride.
Shambles or what?

Attendance tomorrow will be a decent indicator of whether dropping the shuttle bus service is a good or bad idea. We can then discuss whether or not it is a shambles.

The alternative travel options being put forward by the club are legion but none are as convenient or quick as the shuttle buses. I fear you may be right, which is why I posted the attendance from last season's opening fixture, but until we see the numbers we don't know what impact this decision will have. The word shambles may be used again before long! | |

Attendance today 3,183, two less than our average gate last season, and 147 less than our first home match last season against Stevenage (did they bring more support than Port Vale today?). Average paying customers on the shuttle buses last season was 166 per match, are they who we're missing today? |  |

Folks, be careful when buying bus tickets. Travel to the stadium is now far more complicated.
A £4 'All Day' Rover is now only valid for the issuing bus company. Hence, unlike last season, you can no longer buy a 'Return' or First Bus Rover to Mill Road or the Dog & Pheasant and expect to come back on Arriva (or vice versa).
Instead you need to buy a £4.50 Colchester Borough Card. But NEITHER 'All Day' or 'Borough' are valid on the (Arriva) Park and Ride. If asked, both First Bus and Arriva bus drivers will tell you otherwise. Many fans with such tickets had to pay a further £3.00 on Saturday.
So if you need a bus to first get you to town and then use the P & R the cost might be £4.50 + £3.00 if you want choice of service back. It's pay up or your choice of bus company/option is halved. Then for evening matches, the #65 service from Mill Road is every 30 minutes. Hopeless!
Gerry, hundreds of us previously bought such Rover tickets at bus stops prior to Bruff Close. Hence far more than the 166 that paid there legitimately travelled. Robbie Cowling has had his pocket picked as in effect (between us) we paid twice. Many others never paid a penny as they got taxis/lifts to the ground and hitched a free ride back as return tickets were never checked. I know of many that shared taxis on Saturday and its boom time for the mini-cabs. But the day we do get a decent crowd it will be utter chaos. | | | |
