One week left at school, and preparing to spend six long hot weeks rampaging around a Greenstead Estate a fraction of the size it was to become, and the surrounding countryside. Out on our bikes straight after breakfast, and rarely back before tea time.

I was 13 years of age and living with my parents in Enfield.
Watched the TV, incredible black and white images and was totally amazed by the coverage.

Later in the year I bought The invasion of the Moon 1969 by Peter Ryan.
A Penguin Special paper back and it cost 5/-
Still have the book and it was the first published account of the flight of Apollo 11.

Incredible to think today 50 years on that man first walked on the Moon.

Any more performances like last night and JM needs to be fired into outer space!!!!

I was 14 and told to sit still and watch it by my very strict father. I found it dull at the time but obviously had to do as I was told. He had flown Mosquitos in WW2 so aviation was important to him. To a 14 year old I just wanted to go outside in the fresh air, it felt like still being in my school classrooms. In hindsight and reflection I respect what a remarkable achievement it all was by the USA. In a world in turmoil, though, I do not believe that there should be a return to it all.

As for last night......it doesn't augur very well does it.

Just five weeks married to Mrs Gerry …. and still got up to watch the moon landing.
Second most memorable happening in the World that year.

Only just two years old. I suspect I was doing whatever 2 year olds do.

I remember this most of all. Left a lasting impression on a three year old.
