He’s a good example of how you monetize misogyny and racism. Straight out of the Tommy Robinson playbook. If you can find me an example of this so-called complexity that isn’t pseudo-intellectual bullshit, I’m all ears |

As with every pre-season, and I’m sure most club supporters feel this, looks optimistic on paper. As ever, we’ll have to see how it matches up with reality. I’ve always been in the ‘why are we getting rid of the manager so soon?’ Camp, but am cautiously optimistic/ foolishly optimistic on Julien Stephan. I do like what seems to lie behind our recruitment so far - if we keep Kelman we’ll have 2 players that made the L1 team of the year, which is what we should have been doing for a while now. Think the first 6-8 games are key - solid start and I think we could be a surprise package - slow start and I think we could really struggle. So I don’t know really. |

I worked for Reuters for over 30 years - one of the challenges a news source of that type had was to be seen to be providing news independent of bias to a global audience (Terrorist / Freedom Fighter). Social media has obviously done a lot to disintermediate the usual information providers, for good and bad. On the good side, relying on newspapers owned by owners with an agenda as the only source of the truth is now less of an issue. On the minus side, anyone now has an opportunity to spew garbage. I think the adage of “trust but verify’ still holds true as credibility is an earned currency. Bias is interesting as it works in so many ways - reality is that people often believe what they want to believe despite all available evidence. Social Media doesn’t hold many admissions of mistakes Incidentally, one of the things that we all had the opportunity to do, irrespective of job role was attend the journalists’ writing course. Concise use of language was seen as being key to communication. Catering to your audience and avoiding language posturing / grandstanding is a good way of establishing rapport. Interested to know how you get on. We’re planning2 weeks there in September, taking local trains from San Sebastián up to Santiago de Compostella. Avoiding the bigger towns and hoping to get more of a local flavour. Was inspired by a book called ‘Slow trains around Spain’ by Tom Chesshyre |

I think I always felt the losses most keenly when the player was moving ‘up’ when we are actually good, thereby hurting us the most. I never really begrudged a player moving if we were crap or on a downward spiral. So, Phil Parkes, Clive Allen (2nd time), Terry Fenwick and Les |

Loved all of the McCarthy trilogy, and the Wasp Factory. Have you read Power of the Dog by Don Winslow? In the same ‘Well written but brutal’ genre |

Watched 4 episodes of Virdee. Really enjoying it - well made, some excellent performances. |

Absolutely. I’d love to know though, how much does a trial like this cost the public? And to what end? |
 | Forum Reply | Sam Kerr on trial at 10:09 7 Feb 2025
Always feels like a massive waste of money to me - Feels like getting an adult to get the PC and Kerr in a room and apologize / calm down would be a more sensible approach. Presumable neither of them want to back down, but perhaps they shouldn’t’t be given an option. Plenty of more deserving cases never see the light of day |

Not sure if it stands up to scrutiny, but my impression in last few games is that he’s been prepared to cross far earlier than he used to, and in particular to go to the byline and cross with his left. It makes us much harder to defend against as defences don’t have time to reset. |

Any recommendations on pre-match pub - ideally en route from city centre to ground? [Post edited 12 Dec 2024 11:54]

Just finished watching the Turkish Detective - pretty good. The Jetty - first 3 episodes OK, last one was too improbable - don’t know what the good press reviews are about. Nearly finished Supacell- really enjoying it, good twist on Superhero genre. |

Fine if that's how they use agency staff - that's really not the case here. I've spoken to a number of the carers and the managers and they all say the same thing. None of them want / can afford to be full time in what is a very demanding job. The agency staff are used full time - not as cover. Most of them are from overseas. paying full time staff a rate of pay that is fair and meaningful would actually reduce the cost - but no-one is incentivised to do this. |

The thing with fraud is that we tend to focus on what the media tell us to focus on rather than the sleight of hand that those at the top table keep quiet. I came across this real-life example recently and had never really considered it. My Son has significant learning difficulties and lives in assisted accommodation in Twickenham with other adults of similar abilities. There are full time carers supporting them. The accommodation and the carers are of course what our taxes go towards paying for, and I'm profoundly grateful - without that I have no idea what his life would look like. These carers get paid about 23k a year. It's a pretty tough gig. They struggle to recruit. So they get Agency staff in to fill in the vacancies. These are paid exactly the same, yet are charged at 48k a year. Someone is pocketing 25k a year for absolutely no benefit. We're told that paying carers a small increase is unacceptable as it leads to wage inflation - but this is an industrial sized con. Boils my piss - it really does [Post edited 31 May 2024 12:00]
