RND
at 15:41 22 Sep 2025

I thought the exact same thing after 15 minutes or so. Even runs like Bidwell. As we get into 2026 - hopefully way away from the drop - would like to see more Esq.

RND is solid, but he’s not ours and I’m not so sure he’s going to be more than a Bidwell (whereas Esq could be very good or not, we still don’t really know)

X not being a place with a semblance of balance or rationality? Never.

Got off it just over a year ago. Best decision I’ve ever made, and saw me transition over here instead!

Possession…. Can do one?

Totally agree. Pep himself called it last season that it’s all about “transitions” now - which for the normals among us is counter attacking football. Our current front 4 showing why it’s so effective when done well.

Just very happy for him. Clearly a decent guy. Looks good with Varane next to him, and they complement each other. Slowly becoming the sort of player we hoped we had bought. But still more to go. Keep going Nico

Is Saito a future 10?

This. Seen Vale described as a “7”,”8”,”10”. Keep it simple: he’s a smart, technically gifted footballer. So he’s comfortable playing across positions. Don’t need to be ascribing numbers to it.

The xg nerds have won the football chat battle unfortunately.

No threads about JS?

Far too early to tell if we’ve got a good one or not. But deserves respect for not being dogmatic. Just look at Glasgow Rangers for what the opposite can be like, and that is with a much bigger budget than ours.

The “le shrug”, “bit french for me”, “ don’t like his mannerisms” comments are pretty pathetic, juvenile and borderline irrelevant. I can’t speak another language. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to convey yourself in one in a competitive sporting setting when you barely spoke it a year ago.

Best to ignore them imo. The sort of “Little England” Brits who belong in that crowd Saturday.

When a player has that high a ceiling and a good head on their shoulders, they’ll find themselves a spot in the team. And that’s before you get to the points above about 2/3 of our CBs being made of glass.

How did Madsen play yesterday?
at 16:21 14 Sep 2025

Strong agree. Against weaker teams I think JS will play him or Morgan, because they’re the CMs we have who can pass forwards. He’s trying to fill that brief and isn’t shirking as much as has. Doesn’t make him brilliant but also doesn’t warrant (bias) criticism.

He’s been fine, and that’s an improvement. No more no less

Agreed. However, the “game state” (as the nerds call it) matters here. I don’t think they have those chances and exert that pressure if it’s not two nill to us, away from home. A better team, of course, control and kill the game in a more comprehensive way. But for this young team and coach, learning as they go, it’s a fantastic result nonetheless.

It gets you the ability to only threaten the opposition goal via Big Kieffer’s head, apparently.

Deserved it for first half performance. Second half bit of a false game as it becomes attack against defence in that situation. Great result.

That front 4 looks electric. Vale grabbing his chance here. Brilliant alongside the other forwards. Best half this season by miles

Julien Stéphan talks dreams, transfers, and that Coventry game – Interview
at 21:48 12 Sep 2025

I get the point but he’s sat there in an interview saying after 4 games of championship football: we’re not Barcelona, win your duels, be physical. I get the impression he’s just seen the league for what it is rather than a dramatic behind the scenes change of strategy. Watch all the videos you want, it’s not the same as doing the job.

Totally agree with points above that his reputation and the fact they’ve chosen him gives a bit more power. But I just think it comes across like he’s realised this league is a bit muck and nettles as Neil would say.

Occam’s Razor - Watford followed by Coventry showed him this squad is not capable of the “game model” and he’s adapted. Totally get the logic behind the scenario outlined, but I think as a fan base we’re a bit in danger of over complicating / over doing the game model stuff (as Clive said in the interview).

Maybe he’s just seen what we’ve all known about these GK/CBs/CMs and said we can’t do that. Again he said as much in interview that we’re not Barca. Without any evidence to the contrary I think you have to take him at face value.

Agree that Plymouth, GK and fitness situation are still suspect. But disagree the playing style point is in any way nefarious. “Simple” as JS says

Yeah this was my first thought as well Brian. He gave some absolutely perfect party lines in the opening 10 minutes about structure and the wider management team, that I’m sure we would not have heard last year. I don’t mean that in a bad way, this is obviously a structure he is very comfortable in and has recent experience of it with some nutters in Lens which implies he’s pretty content with this comparatively (his answer about “good people” in the structure is quite telling on what it must have been like there).

Think he comes across quite well. He is probably the most head coach of head coaches we’ve had, which is what this structure is supposed to be like for better or for worse.

The fact that the majority of the pod, and this thread, barely makes mention of our new manager/coach - who has an interesting back story, is new to the league and club, and has said some interesting things tactically - speaks to the entire strategy they’re pursuing.

If they (he) is happy that Clive and team are spending a whole pod without mentioning the manager, there’s your problem. Good models (get your premier league sides starting with B out), still have good managers at the helm.

The manager might be interchangeable in a good structure, but they’re still f’ing relevant. This leadership seem to want to ignore that
