If he is not going to sign a new deal this window he has to be sold. Not sure how many more BOS, Manning, Willock situations people need to go through to see where this ends. We can’t afford to be losing the fees these sorts of players get. We’ve relied on another Eze-style sale since 2020 (or even just another Eze sale for the sell on) and it’s got us nowhere. We have to be generating money every summer and it’s him or Varane at this point. For me that’s not really a debate [Post edited 23 Jul 9:26]

Yeah very impressed with Akindeleni. Needs an Eze/Chair loan where he goes and plays 30 odd games at L2, especially given CB is one of the few areas we have options. But very impressed on first viewing, has all the attributes to play at a high level |

All because of Smyth again. Maybe the Twitter lads should take note that every manager seems to pick him…pace and effort goes a long way at our level |

Can’t believe they won’t address the LB position before end of window. Clear that we need an experienced option there |
 | Forum Reply | Are we likely to lose any of our better players to Leicester now ??? at 10:32 16 Jul 2025
The “Marti is going to raid our squad” theory is baffling to me. Even if they were a normal parachute payment rich club able to spend (which they aren’t) who exactly do we think in this squad screams promotion charge? Edwards was the only one (and not ours). Maybe Varane and Chair as squad players, at a push. We’ve finished lower mid table for 3-4 years in a row. No one’s buying out players to get promoted our of this league. Look at the interest in Varane, that’s the market we’re interested in selling to. [Post edited 16 Jul 10:32]

If there’s any truth in the figure being banded around here, then I think that’s a good deal for the club. He’s a good prospect sure, but there is a hell of a lot of noise around the kid for someone who has played 20 odd senior games and been injured more than he’s been fit. We need a sale and I’d much rather have Varane in the team. [Post edited 14 Jul 8:56]

Difference between the two teams is the bowling attacks. Indian seamers have got so much more out of pitches than England’s. First home summer against good oppo without Anderson and Broad, pretty telling |

Was clear before but really obvious after being torn apart by this lot - you cannot go into the season with this set of fullbacks. |

From the inside training content they’re putting out, I think we can safely say it won’t be a 352. Every clip is 1 v 1s on wings with Dembele, Poku, Chair etc and I don’t think they’ll be playing wingback. Variations of 4231/442/4141 feels much more likely and fits squad building (less the FBs, although from clips seen so far really like look of the Brazilian lad). [Post edited 11 Jul 22:07]

If we believe all the ITKs who seem to know what he had for breakfast yesterday - one of the key fallings out was over recruitment, so a trolley dash feels unlikely irrespective of budget. |

Grim kit. But I think it’s quite obvious from the release video, and evidenced by some porters here, that this is targeting young fans not old codgers. They’ll release a Dennis kit in a season or two to placate those of us who like the more retro styles. Home kit needs to hit hard to balance it out. |

Norwich are a very well run football club (but not a very successful team since their last relegation, an important distinction in current finance obsessed football fandom). Lumping them in with the actual basket cases while proclaiming us as real well run ignores the realities of the last three years. Don’t get me wrong things look better than they have been, but we are currently more like where we were under Warbs than anything like where Norwich are. Put it this way - if your hot property is an indicative measure of your club’s state: ours is Varane and theirs is Sargent. I know which one I’d rather. |

He’s obviously aware of the displeasure of many of us about his comms style. Not sure a pithy uninformative minute or so at the end of a WLS interview is the fix he thinks it is. He’s getting a bit of stuff right off the pitch, but fan engagement will clearly never be one of them. Just own the silence at this point. |

Can’t read too much into game for obvious reasons. But I’ll be surprised if Mbengue isn’t starting most games for us. So much more athletic than the rest of the back line we had last year. Very good signing |

Late to the party on this one, but there is absolutely no way you can make a rational argument for going into the season with Larkeche and Esquerdinha as your LBs. 20 odd games in the Scottish Prem doth not a championship standard LB make. Get a good loan in, send the young Brazilian somewhere for some game time, and have Larkeche competing for the spot is the smart play. As many have said, hopefully they’ve seen what happens when you don’t do smart [Post edited 1 Jul 17:16]

Don’t get me wrong, 2 good signings and definitely the sort we should be making more of (much more likely to get a good hit rate doing this than buying from the smaller European leagues imo). But this squad still has huge issues. 3/4 cbs have significant fitness issues, the midfield can’t turn and pass the ball forwards, the collection of wide forwards / 10s are generally weak and lacking mobility (Poku / Smyth aside), and the strikers don’t score goals (often because they don’t get many chances to) - pending Kelman’s step up. We will likely be in the lower third of the league again, which is where this squad sits ability wise imo.. |

Feel like we’re talking past each other a bit here - it’s the same profile I agree, I just mean because one guy failed to adapt doesn’t mean another can’t. Either way, low risk. It’s not £5m on your transformational CM is it |
 | Forum Reply | Kealey Adamson - Welcome at 13:22 27 Jun 2025
Get what you mean in terms of profile. But just because one cheap punt like that went wrong doesn’t mean this one will. Key word here is ‘cheap’, as with Santos if it goes wrong I feel quite meh about it. The more interesting thing for me is that Dunne is clearly being considered as the first choice RB from the off, which again leaves the question about style / model / any other GenAi term you want to choose. King Julien (he likes to move it) presumably came in on the game model theory and we know Jimmy is very good at lots of things but build up - not so much. Just like last year, will Stéphan/Marti adapt to model etc etc |
 | Forum Reply | Sam Field Contract Extension at 18:03 14 Jun 2025
Yeah totally bizarre. One of Warbs’ many sage lines sticks in my mind when it comes to Field - if he was 6’2, a progressive passer, quick, defensively solid, and scored 5-10 goals a season he wouldn’t be playing in the championship. Genuinely find it hard to understand how people look at him and don’t see anything other than a good championship player. |
