Frank Fielding Reveals He Is Rams Premier League Keeper!
Frank Fielding Reveals He Is Rams Premier League Keeper!
Friday, 25th Feb 2011 08:23 by Daniel J Sewart

Frank Fielding revealed today that he is, as everyone assumed, the Premier League keeper who the Rams yesterday revealed they would complete a loan deal for, in time for the Blades clash on Saturday.

With it looking as if Stephen Bywater will be out of action for at least a few weeks with a strained muscle and his deputy Saul Deeney having ruptured a tendon in his shoulder, Nigel Clough was desperate for gloved re-enforcements.

Yesterday the club keeping quiet on the identity of their emergency loan signing; only revealing he was a ‘Premier League player’. The player in question was far less cautious when he openly spoke to the media about his delight at returning for a second spell at DCFC.

Frank Fielding gave the game away to the DET earlier today:

"I've not been doing very much at Blackburn and I enjoyed my time at Derby last time, so I wanted to come back and, hopefully, do as well as I did then."

"There are people ahead of me at Blackburn but that's football and I've just got to get on with it. When I went back to Blackburn, I ended up being on the bench three or four times, which stopped me going out on loan to a couple of different Championship teams.”

"But I wasn't really complaining about that, because it's good experience sitting on the bench in the Premier League. You just have to get on with it and see what comes at you. There were a couple of offers but I've always wanted to come back to Derby and I've got the chance now.”

"Football throws different situations at you; the situation we are in now is not the one we want to be in. But we're going to get ourselves out of it, no doubt. Anything can happen in football and it only takes two or three games for the team to climb back up the table.”

"Then everyone will forget about the run they've been on. Hopefully, we can do that while I'm here.”

"We go into every individual game looking to do our best and that will be the same this weekend. I hope that will be good enough to get us the three points."

I like the boy’s confidence. Let’s hope he is right!!

There will be a lot of very happy Derby fans now that Fielding has returned as he proved to be a popular player when between the sticks during his first loan spell. Many feel that Fielding is a more commanding presence in the box and has much better distribution than Bywater.

No one could doubt that Stephen plays with his heart on his sleeve and is a highly talented keeper but his decision making and kicks in particular at times lack creativity or penetration.

Fielding showed on various occasions when he replaced the injured Bywater first time around that he could be an integral part in not just keeping goal but beginning moves that lead to scoring opportunities.

RamZone will publish a full player profile for Frank Fielding tomorrow before the Blades clash with full news and reaction the keeper joining Derby for the second time this season.

Let’s hope he brings back some of what helped the Rams to 6 wins in 10 matches during his first spell at the club.

Good luck Frank!
