Evans voted best right back
Evans voted best right back

A (long) week ago, we asked you who you thought was our best every right back. You voted en masse for Wayne Evans.

At any time from 1999 onwards, Wayne Evans was the first name on the Dale team sheet. Despite seemingly picking up a knock in every single game, Evans always seemed to manage on, and missed no more than a handful of Dale games in all his time at the club.

The right back position had been a problem position for a number of years, and this possibly contributed to the popularity of Evo who was voted as Player of the Season in his first year at the club. He had this fantastic ability to someone always be the last line of defence, and the number of times he cleared up the back was countless. He finished just two games short of 300 appearances for the club before being released at the end of the 2003-4 season with a grand total of four goals to his name.

The results go to show that it's not just the new breed who are collecting the votes, with Stan Milburn and Graham Smith coming in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Evans' election into the best ever Dale XI makes it an all Welsh affair so far, following the selection of Neil Edwards for the best ever Dale keeper.
