Saints & Boro Battle For The Juke
Saints & Boro Battle For The Juke

Saints have competition if they want to land Lucas Jutkiewicz.

If Saints as reports are suggesting are serious about landing Southampton born Lucas Jutkiewicz, then they are going to have to step up their game, as Middlesbrough now seem determined to match Saints all the way for his signature.

On the face of it, we on the South Coast would assume that it would be a foregone conclusion that Jutkiewicz would want to sign for his home town club, but its far from that.

A move to Saints would be attractive thats for sure, it would offer a chance to play in a winning team and a better than average chance of being in a Premier League squad next year, however the downside would be that with Rickie Lambert being in such fine form, Jutkiewicz would be far from sure of a regular game and would be reliant on cameo appearances off the bench alongside the chance that Lambert might get injured or suspended, something that hasnt happened very often in his time here. Of course it would still be tempting, after all Lambert is no spring chicken, but the player might feel that at this stage of his career, regular first team football is a must.

That being the case this will be Boro's major selling point, they probably will be able to offer the "Juke" a better chance of a regular game and this may be a big leverage in snatching him from the grasp's of Saints, Jutkiewics is certainly not suited to partner Lambert, but to replace him and there is no way that Nigel Adkins can dress that up any different, it will be hard for him to break into the first team with Lambert such a vital ingredient to the side and scoring regularly.
