Roberto Martinez returned to Swansea this weekend after his latest scouting mission across Europe

Martinez was back in his native Spain, where he watched Espanyol as well as taking in games in Holland and watching Rangers clash with Motherwell in Scotland.

And he was looking to add to the bargain buys he picked up last summer which served the Swans so well over the past nine months as they walked away with the League One title by a margin of ten points with a club record points haul.

And the Swansea manager also revealed that there was becoming quite a large following in Spain for Swansea City following the successful acquisition last season of Angel Rangel, Guillem Bauza and Anrea Orlandi as well as the performance of the manager himself.

As ever though, Roberto was not giving anything away in terms of his targets having become the master of playing his cards close to his chest since coming into management just 15 short months ago.

Speaking to the Evening Post, the Swans manager said "It was the perfect time for us to go to Spain because the league was coming to a conclusion while our season had already ended,

"It is a good opportunity to catch up with players who we have been monitoring for a long period along with preparing things for the pre-season.

"I have been watching La Liga and Segunda Division games in Spain along with some matches in Holland and Scotland, including Rangers' game with Motherwell.

"We wanted to check on the development of players, which is an ongoing process.

"There will be a lot of names and rumours being floated about.

"I can say that we have looked at a lot of players - it is not possible to go through that list with you because it would take forever.

"But we are carefully monitoring each player's ability and character, because it is important that you have the right personality off the pitch as well as on it.

"I have spoken to players that want to come to play for Swansea City

"They are aware of what we have achieved in the past 12 months.

"They have seen how well Angel and Bussy have settled and adapted to British football and I think the football we have played has attracted players in the club.

"There is now a huge following in Spain for Swansea City."
