It's time to see exactly how much we've improved over the last month or so, with Saturday's trip to League leaders Hartlepool. There's plenty of good news on the team front, with Jason Smith having shrugged off the calf injury he picked up against Cambridge and Terry Evans showing no ill effects after being stretchered off the same afternoon. Striker Kevin Nugent also returns to the squad after signing a contract that will see him stay at the Vetch until the end of the season. Hartlepool look likely to field the same eleven that drew against York last week, including their top scorer, ex-Barry striker Eifion Williams. A lot has been said in the press this week about the seven goal hammering we suffered at Hartlepool last season. Surely that result is totally irrelevant??!! The team that travelled North at the end of last season was a shadow of our current squad, and don't forget that we've already drawn with Hartlepool at the Vetch this season (before Flynn's signings arrived) Although it's not a "must win" game, a draw or even a win, will see us cement our position away from the relegation places. There is a danger that if results don't go our way elsewhere, that we may get dragged back into the dropzone. Even a win on Saturday will only see us climb one place (if Boston lose) but avoiding defeat will take the pressure off, especially as all the teams below us have games in hand. Looking at recent form, there should be no reason for us to fear the League leaders and I think we could well see a performance to match the one we gave against Rushden a few weeks ago.
