Swans Embark On Their Pre-Season Tour

Swansea Head Off On Pre-Season Tour

Brian Flynn has named a 20-man squad which will take part in the Bradford centenary tournament this weekend before heading off to Holland immediately afterwards for two friendly matches.

Included in the squad is new goalkeeper Brian Murphy who will have the chance to impress over the four games with Roger Freestone remaining behind to recuperate from his injury. Also missing through injury is club captain Jason Smith leaving Flynn with a few experiments to make at the back during the matches.

Included though in the squad are people eager to impress including trialists Karl Connolly, Keiron Durkan and Andy Robinson. All three played 45 minutes in Swansea's opening friendly last week against Port Talbot and will be looking to produce the business on the pitch which will persuade Flynn to open his book of contracts for them.

The Swans first game of the weekend will come tomorrow afternoon against former European Cup winners cup winners Aberdeen before playing either Bradford or Coleraine in the 3rd/4th place play off or final (depending on the Saturday result) on Sunday. The match on Saturday kicks off at 3.45pm whilst the Sunday kick offs are 11.30am and 1.45pm respectively.

After the tournament, the Swans will head out for the second year in succession to Holland. There was disappointment on this front today with the first game of the tour against ADO Den Haag being cancelled. The mayor of Den Haag made his decision today following trouble in a friendly match at the Deva Stadium with Chester fans on Wednesday night. The fixture has been replaced with one against the Dutch non-league champions Kranenbury FC on Tuesday night with a kick off of 7.45pm. The final game of the week will take place on Thursday against FC Noordwijk with a 7.30pm kick off.

The club have expressed disappointment with the game being called off but, as with the Bath game on Monday, such is life and there is a replacement fixture lined up at short notice otherwise question marks may have hung over the whole tour.

Touring Squad: Brian Murphy, Lee Jenkins, Stuart Jones, Leon Hylton, Michael Howard, Kristian O'Leary, Roberto Martinez, Leon Britton, Lenny Johnrose, Jonathan Coates, Brad Maylett, Karl Connolly, Keiron Durkan, Lee Trundle, Kevin Nugent, James Thomas, Richard Duffy, Andy Robinson, Antonio Corbisiero, Jamie Rewbury.
