Martinez Setback For Swans

Martinez Injury Setback

Martinez originally injured himself against Boston at the Vetch and despite a comeback two months ago he is still not featuring in the starting line up for the club. Last night he was designed to play an hour for the reserves but left the game after just 37 minutes with what Teamtalk describes as a recurrence of his knee injury.

Martinez will see a specialist on Friday to find out the extent of this injury and Swans fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that he is not out for too much longer with the side in need of his influence in the centre of midfield. I would certainly say that the likes of Leon Britton certainly play better when Martinez is around and his continued absence remains a worry to us. It also re-opens the question whether we have hurried him back again - you would certainly hope not?

With only 5 starts for the Swans appearances for the Swans all season it is a bitter blow to the hopes of winning promotion although his continued presence around the squad on matchdays appears to give the players a lift. With Karl Connolly and Brad Maylett still not at the comeback stage, it was though pleasing to hear that Leon Hylton, a forgotten man, came through 45 minutes last night before being taken off as a 'precautionary measure'

Meanwhile, the Evening Post tonight reports that Portsmouth could be prepared to table a deal worth around £500,000 for Richard Duffy - that figure being dependent on appearances that Duffy makes for them.

The Oxford United game originally scheduled for January 3rd has been moved to January 6th to accomodate the Swans 3rd round FA Cup tie against either Cambridge or Macclesfield.
