Saints look set to sign Plymouth Argyle's Paul Wotton.

Saints are close to signing Plymouth Argyle's Paul Wotton on a free transfer, Wotton who has played over 400 games for Plymouth in a 14 year career at Home Park since signing as a 16 year old is desribed as a versatile player who can play either as a holding midfield player or centre back.

Wotton 31 in August only returned to the Plymouth side in February after over a year out with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

His arrival could spell the end of Youseff Safri's St Mary's career, its believed the club tried to offload him in the January transfer window and if truth be known his wages are likely to be far higher than Wotton's.

Of course much will be made of this double deal if it happens but Wotton should not be underestimated, in 392 starts for Plymouth in the league & cups  plus 36 as sub he scored 61 goals, not too bad a ratio at roughly a goal every seven games, better than any of our current midfield.

Its not exactly a signing to excite Saints supporters but what did we exxpect in all truth, this will hit home just what next season is all about, getting a blend of youth with experience, unfortunately this is also blended with doing it all at a low cost.
