One Vision - 7th August 2005

A late strike by substitute David Johnson gave Nottingham Forest a positive start to life in League One with a 2-1 win over Huddersfield Town.

Gary Megson's side are keen to bounce back to The Championship and will buoyed by having taken three points against one of the division's promotion favourites.

Forest took a one-goal lead into the break after Scott Dobie converted his own rebound to an initial close range effort on the stroke of half time.

Peter Jackson's side drew level on 67 minutes when the prolific Pawel Abbott converted from the penalty spot but Johnson came off the bench to strike Forest's winner with three minutes remaining.

Chesterfield lead the table after the opening set of matches after coming from a goal down to defeat Blackpool 3-1 at Bloomfield Road.

Keigan Parker gave The Seasiders an early lead before veteran Wayne Allison levelled matters on 23 minutes for The Spireites.

Mark DeBolla gave the visitors the lead six minutes before half time and Steve Blatherwick assured an away win for Roy McFarland's with a third goal in the second half.

Goals by Paul Hayes and Chris Shuker gave Barnsley a 2-0 victory over Swindon Town at Oakwell.

Barnsley's Daniel Nardiello and Swindon's Jamie Cureton both missed penalties in the match, while Robbie Williams was sent off for a deliberate handball for The Tykes on 57 minutes.

Bradford City recorded a 2-0 win at Hartlepool United, as Dean Windass (8) and Bobby Petta (55) struck for The Bantams at Victoria Park.

A second half strike from Jay Tabb and a late DJ Campbell penalty gave Brentford a 2-0 win over League One new boys Scunthorpe United.

Two goals in two first half minutes from debutants Chris Porter (24) and Paul Warne (26) gave Oldham Athletic a 2-0 win over last season's League Two champions Yeovil Town at Boundary Park.

Gillingham put the misery of relegation from The Championship last season behind them after a late Darren Byfield goal gave them a 2-1 win over South East rivals Colchester United.

Neil Danns had given The U's the lead five minutes after the break before Andrew Crofts levelled with a quarter of an hour left for The Gills and Byfield struck in the dying stages to take the points for Neale Cooper's side.

A first half brace from Nathan Lowndes gave Port Vale a 2-1 win over Southend United at Roots Hall, with Wayne Gray scoring a consolation strike for The Shrimpers.

A dramatic late goal from Jorge Leitao gave Walsall a 2-1 win over Rotherham United at Millmoor.

Kris Taylor put The Saddlers into an early lead before Rotherham's Martin Butler took both sides level into the break at 1-1.

That set up Leitao to become the Black Country club's hero and earn Paul Merson's side their first three points of the new season.

Bournemouth came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw at Milton Keynes Dons.

A brace from Izale McLeod gave MK Dons a two-goal lead but James Hayter (76) and recent loan signing Andrew Surman (90) salvaged a point for The Cherries.

Finally, Bristol City and Doncaster Rovers had to settle for a goalless draw to start their League One campaigns at Ashton Gate.

Barnsley 2-0 Swindon Blackpool 1-3 Chesterfield Brentford 2-0 Scunthorpe Bristol City 0-0 Doncaster Gillingham 2-1 Colchester Hartlepool 0-2 Bradford MK Dons 2-2 Bournemouth Nottm Forest 2-1 Huddersfield Oldham 2-0 Yeovil Rotherham 1-2 Walsall Southend 1-2 Port Vale Swansea 1-0 Tranmere
