Roberto: "Cup Games Are Special"

Cup Games Are Special

Reading will this week become the first Premiership side to make a competitive appearance at the Liberty Stadium when they visit in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

Two Premiership sides have previously faced the Swans at the stadium - Fulham and Blackburn were the first two visitors when it opened back in 2005 - but both were friendly games.

A five figure crowd is expected for the game which could see the Swans progress into the 3rd round of a competition that they have not really ever excelled in and it will be a chance for revenge - Reading knocked the Swans out of the competition in 2005.

And manager Roberto Martinez is calling on the fans to make it a special occasion for the Swans and believes that the right noise will see it become difficult for Steve Coppell's side.

Talking to the News of the World, Roberto said "There's nothing like a big cup game on a midweek evening. There's something special about it.

"I would love the fans to go up a notch or two in decibel levels when we play Reading. It can make all the difference. The Vetch had some great nights and there's no reason why we can't have more in our new home.

"Reading won't be looking forward to coming to us, and we have to make sure that continues once we get on to the pitch.

"It's a game we have to look forward to. We can test ourselves against strong Premier League opposition.

"We now have a strong enough squad to compete in both the league and cup competitions and we're looking forward to the challenge."

The game kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday and tickets are available to buy from the ticket office with Reading expected to bring in the region of 1000 fans for the game.
