Monk Praises Team Bonding

Team Bonding Does It For Monk

Garry Monk believes that the team bonding in the summer has much to do with Swansea's start to the new season. Three good performances were finally capped with the first win on Saturday - a 3-1 triumph at Walsall and Monk believes that the new additions to the squad have been able to bed in easily because of the work of Roberto and his coaching staff.

''One thing I realised when I joined this club was the effort made by everyone to settle you in,'' he told the Evening Post after Saturday's win

''We had breakfast together and outside of everything we were always ringing each other up. When the gaffer was a player he was massive on team bonding.

''We were a close bunch anyway but the gaffer has got us doing all the little things together like having breakfast and lunch.

''That may seem a little insignificant but it makes a massive difference on Saturday.''

The Swans recovered from an early setback at Walsall - they were a goal down after 7 minutes - to record their first league success of the season and Monk believes that he is going to get better as he continues his return from almost 12 months out of the game ''A win is a win and when you play away from home you usually have to play different tactics,'' he said.

''Their goal was our own fault and at times we put ourselves under pressure by giving the ball away cheaply.

''But we got an early goal back and then a second, while the third one was crucial.

''I am feeling pretty good. I said all along I would take a few games to get involved. It was my first away game in over a year, but I really enjoyed it.''

Monk also paid tribute to Anton Reid - the teenage Walsall player who tragically died last week whilst training and before making any other comment to the assembled media he simply said ''First of all I'd like to send the condolences of Swansea City Football Club to the friends and family of Anton Reid

''It has been a traumatic week for them and everyone concerned and we would like to let them know they are in our thoughts and prayers.''
