Keegan For Saints

Saints could be welcoming back an old favourite.

Rumours are abounding that Kevin Keegan is about to return to Saints, the Daily Echo has today carried a picture showing Keegan alongside Matt Le Tissier and former Chairman Leon Crouch.

Obviously tongues are now wagging as to the nature of their meeting although its hard to deduce anything other than Keegan is down for a role under the new owners.

But what role would Keegan be asked to undertake, would he be team manager or a director of football role ?

If he is to be the manager, then there are several questions that this will pose, whilst most Saints fans would see this as a big appointment, a name manager who will keep Saints in the headlines, the truth is whether he is suited to the job depends on the new owners.

Put bluntly if Pinnacle have the multi millions rumoured over the past few weeks, then Keegan is ideal for the job, as he did at Fulham, he is quite capable on splashing out on players and buying his way out of the division, indeed his arrival alongside Le Tiss would galvanise the City and the supporters, but, and it is a big BUT, if Pinnacle do not have the money to fund a big transfer budget (In League 1 probably £5 million would be enough) then I would question whether Keegan would be a good appointment

Most Saints supporters question Mark Wotte's abilities to lead Saints next season due to the fact he has no experience in League 1 etc, but neither has Keegan and more to the point Keegan has no experience of working within a budget.

So the key is money, if we have it then Kevin Keegan alongside Matt Le Tissier could be the dream team that brings the supporters together in unity and back to St Mary's in droves and the start of another Golden era, however if Keegan comes in and isnt given the financial backing then it could be another false dawn.
