Hampshire picked up a Trophy at Lords

Hampshire cruised to a win against Sussex at a far from sold out Lords to win the Friends Provident Trophy, Sussex batting first were reduced to 77 for 5 at one point and looked as if they might not even make 125, but any Hants hopes of a really early finish were dashed by Michael Yardy who dug in for an unbeaten 92, in truth Hants had given Sussex a glimmer of hope, their 219 for 9 was at least 30 runs more than they should have got.

But initially worries that Hampshire might themselves collapse were unfounded as they quickly cruised to 93 without loss with only 19 over gone, but then Adams went for 55 and the next ten over saw Hampshire lose a further three wickets to once again raise Sussex hopes that they might yet be able to save the game with Hampshire still needing about 70 runs.

But Hampshire supporters were soon back in full voice as Nic Pothas and Chris Benham quickly rattled off these runs without loss to bring the Trophy last won four years ago back to the rose Bowl.

Man of the match was Dominic Cork who conceded only 41 runs off his 10 overs, taking 4 wickets in the process.

Once again there was a large Saints contingent in the crowd and indeed there seemed to be more followers of the Hawks than those up from Sussex by the sea.
