Garry Monk believes that Swansea's bad start will be a good one if they beat Watford next Saturday

The Swans finally secured their first league victory of the campaign with a 1-0 win at Coventry on Saturday and Monk believes that their supposed poor start will be a good one if they can follow it up with a home league win next weekend.

Watford arrive at the Liberty on Saturday and Monk knows that they need to oush on from Ashley Williams' winner and take three more points to continue their climb up the table.

Speaking to the Western Mail, the Swans captain said “People have said it’s a slow start but if we beat Watford it looks like a great start

“It looked like a difficult start for us when you saw the fixtures, but three points against Watford will put us in a healthy position.

“I’ve always said you’re only two or three wins from turning your season around and being near the top of the league rather than the bottom.

“You can’t help hearing certain things when you lose a few games, but we showed here that we’re playing for each other.

“Apart from a bad second half against Leicester that win’s been coming.

“We lost at home to Middlesbrough but it was never a 3-0 game, and we should have beaten Reading. But this win will be a big lift for everyone at the club.

“I felt a bit aggrieved with the penalty as there was a similar handball in their area and the referee didn’t give it,” he said.

“But then he gave one against us straightaway, so there was a bit of justice in that miss.

“Thankfully we got the goal and we thoroughly deserved the win because we were the team in the ascendancy in the first and second half.

“The last 10 minutes was backs to the wall but I thought we controlled it and we were never really in any danger.

“We defended really well as a team and played some good football.

“We worked so hard, kept the ball really well and showed what we’re about.”
