Saints At Norwich The Verdict
Saints At Norwich The Verdict

Saints at last staarted to play to their potential, but is it too little too late.

Saints beat a top six side for the first time this season and it couldnt have come at a better time, but will this be the catalyst that sparks a great march to the play offs or is it another false dawn.

The problem though is that Saints are still 17 points behind Huddersfield in that coveted 6th spot and with 17 games left that could be too difficult a mountain to climb.

Howwever Saints do have a two things on their side, firstly they have two games in hand and secondly they have to play the Terriers at home.

However its going to be all about putting in the sort of run that put Norwich in the top position they now occupy and for the first time in a long while in the league, Saints had the right attitude and that has been the problem.

At home Saints form has been great, well results wise at least, but away although we have been hard to beat, we just havent been able to taakee that step forward and turn draws into wins, like the game at Exeter, Saints man for man were a far better team than the home side, but didnt have that unseen factor, spirit, confidence, indeed perhaps prepaaration, however at Norwich that all changed as they beat a top six side for the first time this season.

Everything about this performance oozed class against the best home record in the division, but Saints now havee to do it again and again and keep doing it, nothing less than a six or indeed seven straight wins in a row will now do and even that will still leave us struggling to keep the pace makers in sight.

But after Carrow Road, perhaps Saints can do it, the new signings put in a good shift and Lee Barnard finally showed he can score goals.

By beating the Canaries, Saints proved they have the squad, they do have the attitude, they definately have the quality, they now just need to find the endurance, being favourites for the League 1 title next season will not be a satisfactory sseason for Saints given the squad they now have, they have to show true class, Alan Pardew is under no illusions now, he knows that Nicola Cortese does not accept under achievement and perhaps like the supporters he had fallen into the habit of thinking that getting to the JPT Final and using the excuses to hand would be good enough this season, its not and on Saturday for the first time in over two months Saints truly looked like they were a team with focus.
