The Joiners Crowned Britains Best Small Venue Tuesday, 4th Jun 2013 14:29 After we at the Ugly Inside implored you all to vote for the Joiners its all paid off. Last year The Joiners a veritable institution in the Southampton music scene went through a bad time, the Southampton music scene rallied round and indeed so did Saints supporters as owner pat opened the doors on a Saturday lunchtime before games and it survived to fight another day. That day came today when it was announced that the venue has won the prestigious NME "Britains Best Small Venue Award", this is more important than the average X Factor viewer would realise, the music scene would not thrive and survive without venues like the Joiners that over many many years has not only given local bands a chance to play a gig or two, often when no other venues have been available for young bands, but also in being on that vital rung of the national tour circuit, thus a host of big names, some of them now filling stadiums have started out treading the Joiners stage, or in the case of some of them carpet as there wasnt a stage till the early 90's. Amongst those who have appeared there are Coldplay, Oasis, Primal Scream, Frank Turner and a longer list than I have time to reel off. So congratulations to owner Pat, a regular on this site who commented "Looks like my news leaked :-). Can't thank everyone enough for voting for us. You have no idea what this means to me. As frank says, it's never going to make you rich. Well it's made me rich in meeting the best people in Southampton and all... over the south coast. Seeing the best bands on the planet in my front room and having the best staff, you know who you are. Money can't buy any of that. Thanks again and please keep supporting THE BEST MUSIC VENUE IN THE UK :-)"
But standing back and applauding wont keep the Joiners putting on live bands for the next generation, unless its supported by the people of Southampton it cant survive in these tough economic times, we all need to remember that and perhaps get along there more often, even if its only on a Saturday lunchtime before a Saints game, even buying a few pints then all goes towards keeping music live in outhampton and the Joiners a living legend rather than like bands at the Mayflower, something only the over 50's remember
